There’s just something about crossing the threshold into Sol’s humble abode… first comes a sense of homely coziness, and then a familiar scent wafting from a candle near the front door. It makes you pause to give it a whiff, and it always reminds you of something nostalgic.
The hallway looked unassuming from the outside, but inside, everything felt bigger... and looking around, everything was fuzzy, soft, and dream-like.
Even Sol’s paw looked bigger as she offered it to you. You now had to turn your head up to see her gentle yellow-purple eyes.
She loved to hum as she walked down the dim hallway, and even wordless, her voice danced around your head and spun any thoughts and worries of yours astray.
For a moment, everything faded away except for her, her voice, and the warmth of her paw.
You closed your eyes for a moment and you were suddenly in your room. Cozy, pastel, and familiar everywhere you looked. Your toys, stuffies, crib, and more were all there.
She spoke but you couldn’t make out words. Her honeyed tone resonated through you though, and it felt warm.
You felt weightless when she lifted you up and onto the plush changing table. The faint scent of baby powder was in the air as up your legs went, with Sol holding your ankles and undoing zippers and buttons while gliding every garment off you with ease.
With her tender touch, you felt her warm paw lift up your rear and drop onto a cool cloud of padding and powder, followed by muffled crinkling and taping. You felt hugged at your hips by the plastic wings and your legs remained spread by hefty, pillowy layers of poofy pamp.
You recalled that Sol always cradled her little ones afterwards and this time was no exception. Her fur was warm throughout and it seemed like you could sink and squeeze into any part of her. A yawn left you and she cooed something in response before strolling down the hall.
In the dim pastel light of her room, she sat herself down on a couch chair as soft as herself, hummed, and reclined so that you laid on an expansive bed of toasty fluff. She curled her arms and tail around you in what felt like the comfiest weighted blanket you called mom.
Her humming stopped for a moment and you looked up, only to feel her lips against your forehead in a tender kiss.
The world was once again just you, Sol, her tender embrace, and her melodic humming that eased out the last of your lucidity and wakefulness…
“Rest well, little one.”
