Find you a man who looks at you the way this fox looks at a rice ball the size of his head.
I wanted to do some outfits for reference, and ended up doing a lot of research too. The folded kasa hat is my favorite kind, I was in love instantly when I saw the ronin wearing it in Ghost of Tsushima.
This also represents my ongoing struggle to learn to draw cohesive humanish faces and expressions.

One of the projects I still might do (but it might just be a big sketch page) is to draw him in different eras of outfits. I think it'd be fun seeing them get more ornate with the ages, and of course preview how he'd look as a more powerful fox spirit. There's also a lot about how the sword styles and other accouterments changed, like when I originally thought of him I was going to draw him with the sword that came before the katana, which was longer and more curved and worn edge-down, hanging from its own belt rather than the way katana are worn edge-up tucked in.
It's so much fun to just, work with characters and their progression and work out how they'd change over time and various events! That's partly why I've been getting so into TTRPG, hah!
Yeah, the Tachi was in primary use before the Katana, and the Katana was developed by swordsmiths in the 13th century studying bent and broken Tachi and making improvements. It makes sense that he'd probably start out with one, given an older sword is more likely to get relegated to storage or loss if not converted to the newer style. I imagine finding the sword was part of his whole thing of making himself over to be a questing ronin rather than just a troublesome fox spirit prankster.
