A gold pocketwatch, that’s what she had on hand. Back at home, Sylvia practiced the art on herself. Over and over, deeper and deeper, she induced the trance, finding that she had become more vulnerable to the method with each attempt. And within that quiet, peaceful realm of sleep and concentration, she began to realize just how much she loved this new experience. For a few days she experimented, becoming seemingly addicted to the sway of the pendulum, and the ecstasy that followed its undulations. Sleep came easier, and was filled with pleasant dreams. Meditations led to the banishment of anxiety and stress. Even some of her more private moments to herself were suddenly more intense, more satisfying.
And yet…it seemed like something was missing. The dog-girl could not shake the feeling that there was a version of hypnosis that proved to be deeper and more powerful than what the book was teaching her. Some mental state she had entered once before, but couldn’t quite remember.
As she sat at her desk late one evening, she fiddled with the pocketwatch in her skirt pocket. She hadn’t hypnotized herself at work, feeling it would probably be unprofessional. But, with her eyes wandering around, seeing herself alone in the quiet library, with only the ticking of a clock, the desire to fall back into that special new world of hers was getting to be too much to bear…
