String has a lot of uses in myth. It has been used to control dragons.

Seeds work against vampires. Spread them around a perimeter and it keeps out vampires.

I've heard about that. Supposedly, vampires are obsessive compulsive and absolutely NEED to count every single seed. Makes more sense than sparkling in sunlight, at least.
