I thought I’d start the New Year by sharing one of the best works I ever was able to commission from Lucca. This being Yosh’s very first Ref sheet!

It’s hard to believe it took me 13 years to get around to having one done. What matters is that it is done and how well it illustrates Yosh by how most people may come to meet him.
FUN FACTS:
1: Yosh was not originally a duck and dinosaur hybrid. He was to be a blend of Nintendo’s character, Yoshi, and ‘Ducky’ from The land Before Time. Thankfully,
wingedhamham misread my description of what yosh should look like and, rather than giving Yosh the face of a duckbilled dinosaur / hadrosaur, she gave him the big beak and cute, chubby cheeks that have become Yosh’s truest of true faces.
2: Yosh initially wore a black vest over a white t-shirt along with black jogging shorts. This look, with the exception of the vest, has been my real life attire after I get my shower and prepare to enjoy the evening prior to going to bed. (The vest is from how, like a true nerd, I like wearing a vest and t-shirt when out and about. Rarity of MLP: FiM would see this as a fashion faux pas, but it works for me and how I often kept various items on me while out on my dweeb worthy adventures.).
3: Yosh did not show his diapers until 2 years after joining in with everyone on FA. This was a result of my lacking self-confidence and feelings of shame I had about liking diapers and diapered cartoon animals. These worries have greatly diminished over the years with help from various pals like Toroth, Nishi / Oxnard, Tacki, and many others.
4: The transition from black to blue for Yosh’s vest and shorts color was thanks to Nishi / Oxnard having drawn Yosh in such a way as we were bonding as friends through his ‘Circles’ comic series.
5: The name ‘Yosh-E-O’ came from being super nervous about using my usual online name of ‘Yoshiducky’. ‘Yoshi Ducky’ is fairly self-explanatory for my liking of Yoshi and Ducky. Yosh-E-O, later to be ‘Yosh E. O’Ducky, was created based on the in-game item / book entitled ‘Scorch E O’ that you could buy and read to your Neopet on Neopets.
6: Yosh was first seen in pajamas in a work done by Tacki. However, Doodle Noodle / The Rainbow Troll was the first to put him into the footie pajamas / pajama shirt and pajama pants you most commonly see him wearing during bedtime / getting all comfy cozy.
7: Yosh did not have a family until Nishi / Oxnard put out a challenge to everyone to flesh out parents and/or siblings for your character. This made me think of how it would be nice to have Yosh under the care of loving parents. This helped explain Yosh’s appearance by having his mom, Mellony, be a Yoshi and dad, duckers, be a duck. (Later on, I would work with Lanny to flesh out the backstory of forbidden love that resulted in the couple having to move North, get married, and hatch Yosh. It is not until Mellony is preparing to lay Winry’s egg that a relative helps get the two families to welcome their children back to get to know their grandson and, soon to be, granddaughter. The town, its citizens, and a good friend of Yosh’s, Cody, are described in works done by both Lanny and myself. There is also another character coming into play to better show the reunion of Yosh’s parents to his grandparents. This will take place in another of Lanny’s locales and feature Yosh’s platypus cousin, Penelope Platts.).
7: Winry was created as a way for me to fictionalize my real life sister. I have always felt, despite being born with the same degenerative eye condition, that my sister has always been a mentally stronger and far more professional person compared to myself. (This is why Winry hatches at Yosh’s height and size despite exiting her egg approximately 3 years after Yosh popped his little beak out for the first time. This is also why she is often assisting Nishi in playing pranks on her ‘big brother’.).
8: Winry Webigale O’Ducky is derived from the combination of Winry from ‘Fullmetal Alchemist’, Webby from ‘Duck Tales’, and the last name I derived to go beyond ‘Yosh-E-O’.
9: Duckers Dinky O’Ducky, who is Yosh’s father, gets his first name from a game I found on the Apple App Store, which I could never see to play and got for my son to play, of the same name. His middle name has multiple meanings, but was taken from a show I enjoyed on CBS Saturday Morning Cartoons called ‘Dink: The Little Dinosaur’. (Yosh’s mom, Mellony, is not as well fleshed out. The name is really just a reminder of the fun I had reading Nishi’s / Oxnard’s origin story for Nishi in a place called ‘Melon Island’.).
10: Winry was always covered in feathers, but Yosh did not have feathers until Tavi drew Yosh sitting alongside Ozzie to show how well we are able to share thoughts with each other. What sealed giving Yosh feathers was a work drawn by Lucca and colored by Lanny that featured Yosh padded and ready for the 90s. (This image explains why Yosh will, at times, appear in 90s themed clothing and is a reminder, to me, of how Nishi / Oxnard first shared how the stories I write reminded him of the Nickelodeon series of the same time period, ‘Are You Afraid of the dark’.).

There are a number of other nuances about Yosh, like how his Equestria / MLP: FiM version went blind to help me work through my losing all my eyesight on December 15th, 2016, his ‘Quacky Pants’ pony form, and evolving timeline from hatching, being a toddler / preschooler, regressing out of jealousy of his sister, going to school, attending college, getting married, etc. However, as per usual, I quacked on quite enough in this post and will leave it at that.
Thanks to everyone who has been with me to not only build and develop my OC, but who have helped me to use my OC to work through and successfully overcome many real life struggles that would not have been ever possible without your friendship.

Hehe aw this is a good lil reference sheet! :3 And a bunch of good information and backstory on Yosh too. You've built up quite a character, and haha, it's funny how some of it was on accident and from misreading. It happens! But it's sure been fun developing things over the years. nwn
Most definitely, my ham-ticki-tastic, dino-butt buddy friend! I never really sat down and thought through all in which pals, like yourself, have allowed for Yosh to grow into more than just an online avatar of my RL self.

I think on all that I learned through you sharing '.hack://SIGN' with me. The anime was truly ahead of its time when it came to how we can become better people through utilizing our online personifications. Most notably would be Lady Subaru for how, in 'The World', she is not reliant on a wheelchair. There is also Tsukasa who, maybe, was one of the first to openly desire to be male over female.
I do think I had a bit of a tear roll down my face when they all met and we saw that Lady subaru had a RL physical limitation. However, she used the internet, as I came to use the internet, to connect my thoughts more with the 'can do' over 'cannot do'.

I should have posted this over 6 months ago, too. :( It is in not posting this for so long that I did truly come to notice just how much I allowed depression to sneak itself into me, yet again, despite feeling I was being strong and proactive in finding work, being a good employee, getting a house for my mom, Peep, and myself, and engaging in 'psychological warfare' with my ex-wife.
I suppose, like Tsukasa, I tried to find some kind of way to empower myself that, like The guardian, only made me worse off while I wandered about in search of purpose and finding myself stuck going back to the same, lonely place hoping to find something that was never really there to be found.

*Blush* I am still quite grateful for how you've been so patient with how I got carried away with Aro, Goatella, and some of your other characters. However, without it happening, I would not have seen how much I thrive when helping to 'build worlds' over creating them. *Kushi Kushi*
