Take your pen tablet and open up a program with layers like Adobe Photoshop. Put a photograph on one layer and sketch in a light color like light blue on a layer over top. You can darken the color of the sketch later to black. The light color is just so that you can see the lines over the photograph. Trace the lines on the photograph of the person, animal, or object that you want to study the structure of. This will help you find the right lines to use when drawing. Your mind will finally see where the lines are really supposed to be and how they are formed, and eventually memorize this. Then you will be able to carry over the new skills to your freehand drawing. It works to improve your art skills very quickly, I find, otherwise you just keep searching and searching for the right lines to put on the paper. After a while, you will be able to find the lines on your own without having to trace, though, continuing to trace will still help you improve.
The second one is what I usually do, but sometimes it takes a while. I also find that I still have trouble making lines with my tablet as smoothly as I do in pencil. Never really thought about tracing over something to practice. I keep telling myself I'm going to use posemaniacs.com to try to work on anatomy, but I've only ever gotten around to doing it twice. I might have to try the tracing thing just to practice with.
