Yay, despite a head cold I was able to finish this picture just in time. I realize the frog is quite the highlight of the picture, but this picture's got a little story to tell so listen up smart.
This is my current Gaia avatar as well as a theme picture for a joint art auction with a Gaelic theme for St. Patrick's Day. I decided I wanted to do something relating to fairy folk so I read up on different fairy steeds. With the Phooka's black horse form in mind I created a mare of the bog with horse legs, moss fur, water weed hair, and dark drowned skin. She punishes those who abuse alcohol, luring drunkards off the path with her music, confusing them with her moving plants, then drowning them in the dark muck. The only way to escape the mare or to be in her favor is to toss a bottle of booze into the fog where the very bog itself becomes passive from consuming the bottle.
As far as I can tell there are no fairy folk like this aside from Pan who enjoys getting his victims blind, stinking drunk.
The horse legs gave me a lot of trouble since they're of a front view, I couldn't find any reference images that had the hind legs in a front view that wasn't completely blurred out by the front legs. So I just decided to wing it. The plants also proved to be troublesome when it came down to placement and coloring. All that red, yellow, and green was starting to get on my sick nerves. BUT! I'm happy with the final result.
The frog brings me much joy. <3
