Neryn is fairly young, and he is a loyal soldier, a little lower ranked. He is eventually paired with Vhelos, a cranky old Warbred that's Erevoss' clutchmate since he's from a generation that's getting a little too big, and Vhelos is occasionally bred back into some of the lineages due to not having some of the unhealthy genes that have started to crop up in later generations

He discovers that Vhelos is hiding two nymphs, the children of Artaxus. Vhelos begs him to keep his secret because he wants to raise the babies, the last of Artax he has after his mate disappeared, presumably dead.

Neryn agrees to protect the elder's secret and actually ends up befriending him. Vhelos becomes a bit of a mentor to Neryn, who bonds with the two little nymphs as well. Seeing the nymphs and being around them makes it very upsetting when his own egg is taken away upon being laid... but Vhelos is there to comfort him.

The commander of his squadron is very fond of him, and they all have eachother's backs. And even she is surprised that the cranky old Vhelos seems to like him

He is very surprised the first time he is taken to meet Vhelos. The elder is legendary. One of Zarkhan's oldest and fiercest soldiers, who has been retired for a while. Hearing the whispered tales of how the old Warbred can kick just about any ass that challenges him.... Neryn does not expect Vhelos' size... Which is quite a bit smaller than later generation Warbred.

Neryn is a hot-blooded young greenhorn. He is obedient and loyal, but can be a bit vocal and snappy at times. His Commander thinks he may eventually raise through the ranks... if he can tame that headstrong side of himself.
