I thought this one looked familiar (apart from just being you I mean) so I went flicking through your back catalogue on DA as well. But I didn't comment on it there either :(
I like this picture and definitely think that not doing a background adds to the crispness of the picture. Putting something in, even a different colour wash would have detracted from Fazar. The light shading gives a good feeling of three-dimensionality to the picture - which could have been tricky giving his colouring, but you've pulled it off nicely.
Speaking of three-dimensionality (is that even a word?) his eyes are absolutely awesome. You've captured them wonderfully, they're really expressive for such a simple couple of splashes of colour. I'm glad you didn't make them luminous or glowy, as this way we can really get a feel for his personality coming through.
