The protagonist of my latest project, and also notable for being my first male protagonist, Joe Kennedy is a resident of the city of Coldhaven, the last habitable place on Earth. Kept survivable by a massive furnace in the center of the city colloquially known as 'The Candle', Joe is a member of the maintenance team.
Tasked with keeping the city running, he along with his partner Mike, is responsible for the day to day operations of the heat distribution system.
Married, he is a father of two, his son Lucas, and daughter Emily. Housed in a small unit in the Residential Ring, he provides for his children including the medication Emily needs to keep her healthy.

Very interesting. I don't know why, but from what I've read, I imagined him as being bigger. Not fat, but bulkier, more like a football star or something. No reason, except maybe because he's a bear and a mechanic besides. It's nice to see him in the flesh, though, as it were, and the art is beautifully done. You can just feel the biting winter cold, and his various belts and tools are quite a nice touch.
I definitely wanted to go for the 'everyman' feel with Joe, which is possibly even why I ended up naming him Joe in the first place. Unlike some of my other protagonists who choose their path, Joe is very much forced into it, being a father and husband, also firsts of mine, though he is not the first one to get shoved on his path involuntarily but with him the stakes I've tried to make much more personal and grounded.
I like the utilitarian look of his outfit as well. It's nice to see clothes where you can identify at a glance exactly what everything is and why it's there. Living in a fiercely cold environment most of the inhabitants are those naturally inclined towards winter climates, although there are exceptions of course. But this of course influenced my decision to make Joe a polar bear, because he seemed like one of the best suited species for the setting I had in mind.
