Coming Soon to FA...
Surprise! You thought I was done, but it's still me, Chuck Testa.
You got that old Disney Home Video voice in your head from the title, didn't you?
Fake movie poster I made with my mouse. Thought I was joking? Nope. No cord. Gotta wait until next month. π
It looks pretty bad, I'm out of practice with it, but I tried.
I'll stop beating around the bush. That redesign for Rigubi/Tanuki Rigby sucks ass. Like two weeks after making him, I hated it. I should have redesigned him to make him BETTER, not out of spite. So, for the past four months, I've been constantly tweaking his design to fix what went wrong.
This is just a teaser, but as you can see, he no longer has round bear ears. For some reason, I lost the ability to draw them in a way I find aesthetically pleasing. That, coupled with my increasing urge to make me more... """realistic""" and closer to my art style and literally stressed myself out trying to figure out what was bothering me about his design. Not the new one. It period.
The kemono look was cute, but it's not fitting with my current state of mind nor my ideas and wishes for the future of my art. This guy is ME. My mascot. Who I am. I was so frustrated with his look, that I was considering shelving him for a while until I got the energy to work on him again. No thanks. I pushed past that and kept working. Over and over and over. Redesign after redesign. For WEEKS. I never gave up, because no matter what anyone thinks about him... he's my perfect Fursona. I can do whatever I want with him and it fits. I always enjoy drawing him and roleplaying as him. He finally feels like... ME. More than any characters I've ever used before. He allows me to be imaginative with what he would do in a situation with the shapeshifting. He loves to dress up and his color scheme goes with EVERYTHING. He's pretty morally gray, which makes writing for him fun. A lot of my characters are (to be fair, all people are morally gray, whether they think they're saints or not), but I never connected as much with them. (Well, 99% of them are ocs and the 1% were mostly girls. Makes sense why. π) sorry
Back on subject, that consistent drive to make him right again came from a intense desire to rekindle what made me fall in love with him over these two years (and the two years he existed offline). It was always his personality and traits that made me like him, even when my art skills couldn't do him justice. I had to fix his design. It was the right thing to do.
But, back to my original topic. I rambled more than I meant to there.
It was the fact he looked nothing like the animal he was. He resembled a ferret. More than the ACTUAL ferret I made. (Who is a Japanese Weasel now). I always say that any design can work as long as you can tell what the species it. Rigby Regular Show looks like a lemur or coatimundi and Rigby When The Fur Flies looks like a ferret. Geez.
So, to fix this, I gave him rounded triangular ears like a real tanuki. They don't look like it here, but that was because I needed the lines as straight as possible.
Secondly, I gave him a leaf. Permanently.
He is a Bake-danuki, after all. So, no matter the form, it's always there. It can't be removed. Ever. E V E R.
Thirdly, something about his face bothered me. I hated how it looked and it made me giving him a normal canine muzzle impossible. Find out what I done about that in 2022!
These ingredients combinedcreated the perfect little boys helped me spruce him up into a finer gentleman than before!
Don't want to spoil anymore. π€« See you in 2022! Happy New Year! πΎππβ¨ππ§¨ππ
