"The art of dressage is like a carefully choreographed dance," Saber's words still clung in the mind of the young kobold. "Horses and handlers must train hard to master every step, every motion, till each flex of the muscle is as natural as breathing. With your skill in this manner, I thought it best to place you in charge of this event. You will represent my ranch, my estates. Don't disappoint me."
It had been nearly a month since Saber had called her to the office and spoken those words to her, yet still Malia felt as if they had just been breathed into her mind. Even more time I had passed since she moved from stable work to dancing full time, and yet Saber had chosen to give this task to her. She knew the challenge, training a mare whom only known the charge of battle and the hunt of the kobold's own kin, as well as the green young filly still growing into her own limbs. She had only a month to prepare and even with the full resources of the estates at her disposal, she knew her task was near impossible. Still, the only other outcome was to disappoint and disgrace her Ladyship, and that was simply not an option.
Curtains were drawn and windows were closed till the arena was bathed in blackness. The air stilled as audience and judges alike awaited what was to come. Suddenly the sound of a soft piano pieces the quiet as a crystal lamp bathed three figures in a beautifully blood red light. Malia took in a sharp breath, this is all the weeks of training had come to be.
With a quick flick of her hands, the great beasts beside her moved in unison with herself. There were no words, no whips or reins as she need only give a glance and a gesture and the mighty steeds understood and obeyed. They had worked together, trained together, and now together they danced.
