I should have mentioned this earlier.
My dad, all of eighty years old, tells me that when he was a kid his family had a 1929 Dodge Touring Car. The kind with wooden-spoke wheels. The epitome of the term "used car" by the time they got it, the beast still ran well enough for numerous family outings on the highways of Depression-era West Texas.
