So,
Carnival's theme this last month was DnD'cember. (Admittedly I've played more Pathfinder than D&D over the last few years.) And while I've made up Sara as a Magus (spellcaster using weapons and armour as foci) and Jenora as a half-Ifrit high-DEX fighter/dancer, I decided to go for someone who hadn't actually been drawn before.
As a result, here we have Meliani, a vixen who was originally written up as a half-elf Rogue (Sniper archetype) with a mithril chain shirt and a darkwood longbow, for an off-and-on campaign with
newtypex. No magic, but really good with a bow.
(And yes, those are D4s as the arrow tips. That was part of the YCH: you could choose between the archer with the D4 arrows, the mage with the balls of D6s, or the barbarian about to throw a boulder-sized D12.)

Definitely. Third picture from this artist (though the previous two were meant more as doodles rather than a full YCH) and not been disappointed by any of them yet. Biggest complaint is that it's hard to attend the streams due to the time zone difference. (Carni is in Australia.)
Depends on whether you were going to be a target she actually wanted to hit or something where she would show off almost hitting you. She's a pretty good shot. (Like +8 to hit at 3rd level.) She's also a bit of a 'glass cannon', admittedly, sticking to ranged attacks because she's the most physically fragile of the group.
True. Granted, the general trend of D&D has been away from 'glass cannon' as the game moved further away from its original wargame roots and into more of a roleplaying game where players would be expected to be emotionally invested in their characters.
And yes, doing something like the William Tell bit could be interesting, hmm...

Well there are still glass cannons, and those are "mid-level wizards". Before they start breaking reality, they 'merely' just become able to break encounters with enough foresight. :)
(I should know, I have a friend who is adept at figuring out how to do it entirely inside the rules.)
All this is reminding me I have not sat down and played D&D since 4th edition was being phased out following the "Essentials" line...

Well, this is true.
At least the glass is tougher in later editions than in earlier ones. A wizard in 5e or Pathfinder gets D6 hit dice rather than the D4 of 3.5e or earlier, as well as making characters default to the maximum roll at first level rather than having a chance at walking around with only one hit point.
I've still got my first edition AD&D books around here somewhere, back when every class had its own different XP progression table...
