2010 FBA Draft Prospect - Wescot Yobia
sketch 16/100
I'm finally done with my epic move from hell and am just about settled in and ready to resume finishing these FBA prospects! Just in time too, since the FBA Draft, which was supposed to be in mid September, has been pushed back to the 2nd weekend of October! Maybe that will give me enough time to get these done... if I hurry! X,x
Oh hey, btw... binturongs are really damn funny looking, and their fur patterns are hard to imitate. I just thought I'd let that be known.

Wescot hails from the prestigious Underwood College, which right there makes him worth a look. But given the fact that he's been called "One of the finest centers to have ever played at U-Dub", you know this guy has the potential to be something really special. And it's pretty obvious he knows it as well.
Wescot is one of few centers in the draft that is great defensively without being a specialist. His 12.4 rebounds and 3.1 blocks a game is very impressive, but when you add in nearly 20 points a game, and on your typically stacked U-Dub roster, it takes his value even further. At a shade under 7 feet, 250 lbs, Wescot has the size to bang down low, but he also is one of the rare big men gifted with terrific ball-handling skills and excellent footwork, which makes him almost impossible to stop on the block. Finesse and heady moves and tricks are definitely his game on offense, as even the most defensively aware pros will have trouble determining what he's going to do next. And even if they know what he's going to do, stopping him is a completely different story. He's even got a nice 15 foot jumper off the pick-and-pop, which can make him even harder to defend, and a developing "tailhook" shot that is sure to befuddle opponents once he is able to perfect it.
He's also a very flashy player, which is a gift and a curse. He will bring the house down with a thunderous dunk over his defender or even drop a behind-the-back pass to a cutting guard on the baseline, and he obviously loves making the crowd 'ooh' and 'ahh'. But often times it can get out of hand. He has been known to dribble with his tail and even put on little shows where he pretends to play defense against himself while his tail dribbles. While fans adore lovable goofballs in the league, there is a time for joking and a time to get serious. His antics will certainly be well appreciated in future All-Star games, but during real games, he needs to mature and take the game seriously, even more so when his showing off leads to senseless turnovers, which it often does.
Defensively, he is one of the best bigs available as well, nevermind what he contributes offensively. He grabs the 3rd most rebounds a game and blocks the 4th most shots a game in all of this year's draft class, so he will have no trouble protecting the paint in the pros. Combining that with his offensive talents, passing and ball-handling skills, and great speed and footwork at his position, you're looking at the full package and a can't-miss center who will be a star for years to come. Just as long as he learns when to be serious and do his job right, he'll be fine.

Heh, I guess the grey muzzle and eyebrows, along with the grey flecks in his fur, give that impression. But he's only like 20! That's just how his fur pattern goes!
I hope he's nowhere near as injury prone as Oden is though. ;)
It's a well known fact though, that Greg Oden is actually 80 years old. His recorded age is 20 simply because he was born on Leap Day, so only every 4th birthday counts. ;)

That's true... But so far we do have players that were tagged as all that but haven't really taken off yet due to various things. Karre Roark, Jeff Random, Evan Ashton to name a few (Ashton being the closest to what I'd call a bust).
Injuries are tougher, since it just doesn't happen naturally and sorta has to be planned. I'm sure a system will pop up that B-Hop will figure out some players get injured more often than others. There's certainly been a few superstar injuries (Lancaster, Stoat, Rouge) but they always come back full force.
These critters just seem to have plenty of rubber in them the way they bounce back! (.....Oh god, that was just BAD... I should never say that in the furry fandom. O,o Haha! XD)

The U-Dub uniform was fun to do. I think I've got a working template for the other U-Dub players too. ^^
Nah, holding the ball like that isn't hard. Pretty much anyone over 6'4" should have hands that are big enough to grip it. And Wescot's got some big mitts on him. ^^
He doesn't have to be left-handed just because he's palming the ball with that hand... but I kinda like the idea of him being left-handed actually. That's a trait that isn't usually revealed among FBA players! I wonder who else in the league is a lefty. :)

And there he is. A top ranked center that likes to showboat. I can already tell he's gonna have quite a few teams clamoring to have him on their team. Hell if I were further up the draft order I'd be looking at him too... though that brings up the option of perhaps trading for him.
It's definitely an interesting situation, since it appears that spots 1-3 are basically solidified, that leaves the Clefs as the earliest team that's likely to consider him. But he could drop down a couple of spots, and there are some teams that might really benefit from that slide!
The Pride have a super awesome center already! But they could always benefit from more bench power... and Wescot also plays power forward. ;)

About time I started commenting on these pics...
Man, that's a hell of a strange fur coat. But you did it, JT. Don't know how, but that looks just right. Outstanding job.
And I LOVE your additions on the U-Dub jersey! That logo on the shorts is awesome. And you gave it (shiver) Kings-style shorts.
This is just outstanding. Gotta say, that uniform looks good against that fur. I figure brown/green/black is something you'll never see in a real sports team's colors-- but I think it fits nicely in the furry world.
