Try telling that to her majesty's government. They basically love to flip-flop over tough decisions. First of all only the ones who need a booster can get one, now 'some' are insisting that everyone gets one, even though the WHO director general said that most healthy people just needed the two. So yeah the Conservatives are just more concerned about covering themselves in case of a public backlash it would seem. All the media also seem to care about are the high number of hospital admissions, but nothing really about deaths. The virus is likely going to continue to evolve to become more infectious but less deadly as time goes on, as it's only really trying to survive like any organism.
One thing is for sure though and that's Royal Mail is effected. I've been waiting for over a week for something to arrive from eBay and it hasn't arrived yet. We have had zero post from Royal Mail for several days now, so obviously a lot of their stuff must have been taken ill, not just from the usual aliments but from Omicron as well, as people are being told to self-isolate if they had come into contact with anyone else with the variant. Basically it's just slowing things down to a crawl on what is all ready one of the most busy times of year, more or less the busiest for mail services in general. I kid when I said it would be February, but at this rate it could be mid January before I see your card, as it takes about two weeks for mail to arrive to me from the States normally. But we'll see. Of course I'll let you know when I receive it. (Oh as I'm typing this I'm wearing one of your Beach Bear T-shirts).

I can't remember ever hearing of a virus that mutates this rapidly, in so many varieties. And usually just after we come up with a vaccine for it. Or point out that certain populations seem to be largely unaffected by it. Then whammo, a mutation that attacks the hitherto-safe group. And let's not forget how three weeks ago, there were, what, four people in the world with this new bug, and suddenly it's responsible for 85% of new cases?
And of course, white-tail deer also can get it. HOW?! I thought deer stands were pretty socially distant.
It almost reads like a bad sci-fi novel. Maybe that's why it's called the "novel" coronavirus.

It is weird, but that's the world we live in. One where the media wants to blow things out of proportion just to remain newsworthy.
I still recall some saying that cats can catch COVID, who knows, by the end of the decade any creature could catch it, but by then it may have mutated into something harmless.
This "novel" has yet to reach it's conclusion for sure. I also just looked up the word 'corona' on it's own on Microsoft Bing just for curiosity and wouldn't you know it, most of the results are for Coronavirus, rather then the astronomy phenonium that would have likely been the first result you saw back in 2019.

But I thought it was a combination of four or five fairly settled strains, and each year they have to guess which three to put into the vaccine. It doesn't mutate in response to someone pointing out that "kids don't seem to get this" or "so far Africa has not been much affected by the virus," or the minute we develop a vaccine, a whole new and more virulent strain appears.
When I had the flu back in January 2020, it was Type A.

Both frankinsense and myrrh are products of rare trees which put out a highly fragrant gum. While you can find both today, they are usually artificial substitutes, much like wasabi.
Even back then they were rare, and only the richest of royalty could afford them, which is why they were given to the King of the Jews.
