Second in my collection of "new" dog characters is Bonito as a Pastor da Mantiqueira or a Mantiqueira Shepherd Dog. (Also Brazilian Cattle Dog, Cão Pastor Mantiqueira and Policialzihno.) (I did a lot of research on this breed, I'm sorry.) I figured you guys would understand the English name better. I prefer the Brazilian one. Pastor(al) = Shepherd, so the name is literally Mantiqueira Shepherd. Pasture -> Pastor. (So, field dog? 🤔) Neat, huh?

This is a rare (and unfortunately almost extinct) breed of shepherd from Brazil. Don't rush to go adopt one; they don't make good pets. They're strictly working dogs.

I designed a dog form for Boni months ago. (I say around March-April, maybe?) He was originally a shepherd mix of some sort. I didn't like that idea, but kept the original idea for the "Raccoon-like" tail. Unfortunately, when color testing, I hated the way his original tail colors looked on this body. Dogs don't have stripy tails, ya know?

I also originally didn't know what part of South America he would be from. I made him randomly, after all. I eventually landed on good ol' Brasil, because... it fit. 😊

Anyway, after deciding that, I looked for Brazilian breeds that are similar to the look he had before. I lucked out, The Pastor de Mantiqueira! The example dog on the (Portuguese) Wikipedia page even kinda looks like him! He has a... kinda stripy tail! Huzzah!

I really love the way he looks as a dog? Like his Raccoon colors translated really well into this form?? They look so natural??? It was fate, perhaps???? I'm in tears????? I'm so happy?????? Help me???????

Long story short, he's not a mutt and he's not a German Shepherd. Don't mix him up with them.

Edit: I just learned that Brazilian Portuguese and European Portuguese were separate languages. 😶😔

He lives as a stray, free from human reign, after being retired early. (I can't remember why his owners abandoned him, but it was sad and Oscar™️-worthy.)

He's gotten used to freedom, but unused to a human's touch. Most other dogs ignore/avoid him because of a stupid rumor that he's a coyote. Not to mention, the rarity of his breed makes everyone think he's lying about this mysterious Brazilian breed no one's ever heard of. (Yeah right, mutt.) Life's ruff.

(Edit: Similarly to Rigby, he hates being mistaken for a German Shepherd. Though, the other party is always confused as to what a "Pastor de Mantiqueira" is.)

He hates pets and the cozy life they have. He feels like they are wasting their lives away when had something to do with his time. So, he travels around doing who knows what all day to keep himself busy. At least he's become pretty street smart.

The blue stuffed kitty next to him is named Gato. ...he's not creative with names. He's always look like that; he's supposed to appeared "well loved". (I got the idea from Build a Bear's Zombear.) He was a gift.

He makes friends with Poodle!Rigby and they go places together. Boyfriends 🥰
Despite his usually grumpy demeanor, he's pretty chill and happy, even in his situation. Rigby just wishes he'd move in with him. 🥺

Freedom or safety? 🤔

(I keep torturing these three characters. It's fun. Rig being a stud dog and hating it. Bonito being a stray. Sakura being jealous and lonely. It's so delicious... 😈)
