We had a Close Encounter of the Coyote Kind
I almost didn't post this, because it's so intimate and insane and no one is going to believe me
I was walking Berry (my dog) on Thanksgiving day, listening to an audiobook. It had finally warmed up from a cold snap we were having
Suddenly, what I thought was a dog came bounding happily out of the trees right in front of us.
I quickly notice it wasn't a dog, it was a beautiful fluffy coyote!!
He walked right up to my dog, they sniffed noses and did dog stuff. Then the coyote went running into the trees and kept trying to get Berry to come play with him.
It was the most random, beautiful, magical breathtaking experience I ever had
Sometimes, I exaggerate things (come on, we all do it) like when I say I was walking and "literally bumped into a moose". I've never actually LITERALLY walked into a moose, although it sure feels like it sometimes cuz they're so huge and scary
But all of this 100% hapoened and it's insane. Another man at the park said the coyote had been running laps for 20 minutes
The even weirder thing is that two hours later, on my way back home, the coyote was STILL THERE and my sister saw him too.
This is exactly the type of thing I daydream and fantasize about when I'm walking. It's not unusual to see coyotes or foxes around town (or even a bear, on that same trail) but it is highly unusual that they are so chill and friendly. Usually coyotes are extremely shy and skiddish
Hopefully no one had been feeding him and he's stays out of trouble. I worry!!! But he wasn't acting interested in getting snacks or anything
I've been on that trail a dozon more times since Thanksgiving and haven't seen any signs of coyotes. I think he was enjoying the warmer weather and taking advantage of the trail which was pretty empty because of the holiday. I've been going to this park all my life and nothing like this has ever happened. I don't think it will ever happen again tbh
The only really devastating thing about this event was that I didn't get a pic. I keep my phone zipped in my inner pocket because I've lost it in the snow wrangling my dog. I did get it out but I was just too slow
I was so upset that I didn't get it on film that I drew it instead
Sometimes the best memories are the ones in our hearts, I gueeesss

I had a lynx up here that I pulled up to in my car right outside my driveway and it just sat there watching me about 20 feet away, luckily I was able to get some pictures from my phone or no one would believe me, unfortunately my phone ate all my pictures, probely 30-40 seconds of us staring at each other
