He's still distressed, he is just trying to focus on the task at hand. As you saw in previous pages he was really upset seeing Gwen hurt. He still hasn't quite had time to grieve or process it. We had the choice to focus on him being distressed or Kibella explaining her situation. We do fully intend to address the deaths and injuries as well as the characters' reactions to it.
A side note though, he is a veteran and so it is not the first time he's seen death on the battlefield.

I hope that Kylar and Joel's relationship will one day no longer be illegal. I was kind of hoping Kylar might be the main character for his own story! Though, given how one of his own subordinates found out about his relationship with Joel, I do wondered what would happen if anybody else found out about it, including Seasme.
I don’t share Kylar’s optimism.
Drayven may be a different King than his father, but I still don’t think he’s be willing to share power with his wife. Probably one of the reasons why he doesn’t want to get married…
