Maayan's Death - By Catrinenice
CatrineNice did me a favour and portrayed how i wanted to eventually end Maayan's and Aisha's story. This never came to be because... reasons.
So, one thing that was never clear in the comic https://tapas.io/series/Monster-Trainer was... Aisha's and Maayan's story.
Originally Aisha's story was that of a nurse robot that after the war had to decide between being sent to trash or... find a way to survive, knowing that she would not get much money.
Normally, robots without a purpose just choose to be recycled, but that felt wrong for her, she lived through so much that it would feel disrespectful to trash those memories.. So she chose to live on and her officer just told her that if she felt like those memories were worth something she should build herself a legacy.
Which she did. Bit by bit. She started learning a few random jobs, from those she got connections which turned into money for the repairs, yes, she was military equipment but even that comes with repair costs, as any officer can attest.
Then she formed relationships with humans and she even married, mostly so that she would have somebody take care of her when she needed extensive maintenance done. And learning about relationships that went deeper than mere co-workers.
Then she went on and adopted children, raising them as if she were a mother, and learning what meant to be a mother.
When she finally saw her kids graduate from college and form their families, she felt like she had learned enough and she started building "Project Maayan".
Maayan was essentially a "summoned slime" just like the other monsters, but Aisha knew how to "game the system" and built something the slime could operate. A mechanical brain.
While still forced to fight in the tournaments, Aisha's plan was just to build a better version of herself that could learn what she could not. And Maayan was the daughter she dreamed. Sure, Maayan had to be taught the basics, of course. But Aisha had the patience of a robot and summoner control over the slime if needed.
So she kept teaching everything she knew to Maayan, until eventually Maayan went to school, and then college and then graduated. And yes, the summoner contract specified she still had to do the tournament stuff, but eventually another person won the final tournament and since Aisha was able to qualify among the top four she still got to keep Maayan.
Eventually Maayan did what Aisha had built her to do. Researching anatomy and robotics in ways Aisha could not even understand, she build a new type of robots. And used Aisha's memories as their basic learning experience. Having more than 150 years of experience over a very wide array of situations pre-built these robots were considered not only extremely valuable, but were extremely desired.
And so the Aisha model 2.0 were born.
The image above in my ideal story that will never be would be the closing image. After achieving everything that she wanted. Aisha let Maayan live how she wanted. And she did. But first, Maayan asked of Aisha if she wanted to die now. If she felt at peace. And Aisha said that, yes, she wanted to die, but if she died... Maayan would die with her, for she was still a summoned monster. And she wanted to let her live a life.
So Maayan asked Aisha to do one last maintenance check and then come and live with her, eventually, something would break that could not be bypassed and that would be the end of both of them. But it would take a few years.
For the next 12 years Aisha stayed at home pieces and bits slowly failing until she was immobilized on an air conditioned bed. Her childrens and her children's families came to see her, sometimes protesting, eventually accepting her decision. Knowing the end was near, but not wanting any more repairs.
When Aisha died, Maayan had gone with some friends to the park. They already knew that she could die at any moment. And when she fell to the ground, they knew it was time.
They dragged her under a tree, away from the eyes of people for one last goodbye. But her soul gem had faded and she did not even recognize them anymore. Melting into nothingness.
Maayan's friends and the children of Aisha had already planned for this. They knew it would happen. The remnants of Aisha and Maayan were buried like human beings normally are buried, one next to the other.
