it's definently a hard experience, theres good and bad days for me, one day I might die on every encounter I meet, on another I might kill 3 bosses in a row with no problem, play it when you have patience and mood, cuz then it's when it's at it's best ;)
if things starts going downhill, just wait a day or two, then come back, it has always helped me, if not just keep trying dude ;)

I've beaten it, and I only have a few bosses left on my second playthrough, I cannot do new game +, it pisses me off too much =P
dragon god is easy, just don't get spotted, get to the first spear throwing machine on the left, then it's easy going from there, just be careful while slashing his horn at the end, he breathes out fire at certain times ;)

it's not that hard actually, it's just foreign the first time you enter the game, if you play it carefully, it's not extremely hard to suceed.
only time I died first time first level was at the very first boss, just because I was treading carefully and picking my strikes at the right times ;)
