With a simple press of the button, the two individuals felt their bodies become hot. A seemingly painless electrical jolt caused their forms to shift. One of them lost fur and grew feathers while the other gained fur and lost their thick hide. As the two stared at each other, they could both see their midriffs expanding, filling out with copious amounts of adipose tissue.
Once the process completed, the dragon groaned and rubbed the back of his head. Not used to the extreme difference in his digitigrade legs, he teetered forward, hearing a large crunch as he did so. "Urf. Wow, that... took all the energy right outa me, Tzin."
"You're telling me, Sarge" the wolf replied, rubbing the fiery red fur atop their head. "And it's sweltering now! Is that a normal side effect of this... species swappy thingy?"
Sarge took a step back, ready to examine what had made a crunch under his pads. Before he looked, however, he turned to his partner. Seeing the sheen green fur and the large, sagging belly, the dragon made a long and audible hum. "Honestly, Tzin... I think it's just residual heat from the transfer -- mixed with the fact you're both morbidly obese AND now have over fifteen-thousand hairs per square inch of your skin... as per most species of canidae..." Sarge trailed off, realizing he was rambling. "Though, Tzin, I think you look adorable like that... it suits you."
The flustered wolf looked over at the dragon and smirked. "And I think being a Mexican Dragon suits you, Sarge." While hefting up his own belly, Tzin nodded towards Sarge. "Good mixes of greens, blacks, and browns I'd say! You should be one more often!"
"Well, with my Species Swapper 2.0... that shouldn't be a problem." Sarge smiled.
"Two point O?" Tzin tilted his head to the side. "I've not even heard of the first one."
"Experimental. Tried it out with a few people. In the end I turned into a kangabearawolfabataroo...." Sarge twiddled his thumbs together. "Well, it was a mix of around fifteen different species. Took me a good few months to fix the problem. So, I made a new device, which seeeeeems to have worked out!"
Tzin smirked. "Hope I was helpful to you, then."
"Very much so!" Sarge clapped his hands together. "I'm surprised we got off without a hitch! Usually there'd be a- Ooooooooooh. That was the crunch-" Sarge cut himself off, shaking his head. "Oh no! Tzin! My 'Species Swapper 2.0' broke!"
Tzin's eyes widened and his brow furrowed. "Wait... what? Don'tcha have the schematics for it?" Hefting up his belly, he let it drop, causing the ground the shake slightly.
"Well yeah! I've learned from my mistakes... but it'll take a month to get the tech working again!" Sarge, now curious about his own belly, mimicked what Tzin had done. He wasn't used to being so fat without having any fur. "Oh wow, I didn't know tha-"
"Well FIX IT!" Tzin interrupted with a mix of panic and irritation in his tone. "I'm burning up!"
"Oh, sorry... rambling again," Sarge whimpered, looking away in embarrassment. "I'll... I'll get this fixed pronto."
Tzin stared for several seconds and then his expression softened. Attempting to change the subject, he lifted his belly up again and grimaced. "Color me impressed, Sarge... on the invention and on, uh-" Tzin looked over at Sarge, hoisting up his belly more, "this. How do you NOT overheat when you're basically a walking, insulated carpet?!"
Sarge looked over his shoulder and gave Tzin a small smile. "You get used to it." Sarge looked down at his device and sighed. "You've got a month -- might as well try it out, right?"
"I suppose I have no choice there, so yeah." Tzin placed a hand on Sarge's back. "Make a sturdier, non-breakable frame to that device... and you've got my endorsement, Sarge."
Sarge's eyes lit up and he began to wag his tail.
