Unlikely friendship of Soras Anthelion and Xau'jin Sablemirth, my BE Mage and ZT Paladin.
Soras is a Troll Exterminator from Silvermoon, and as his title implied he amongst a dozen others were tasked by Prince Kael'thas and his kingly father before him to study the most efficient, ruthless ways to perform genocide against Forest Trolls lurking near Quel'Thalas. Soras started his duty prior to the first war, and continues long after Blood Elves joined the Horde. Thrall was aware of Blood Elf's hatred against Trolls, but trusted that survival will outweigh vengeance over time; he's almost correct, as usual.
As Horde befriends Zandalari Empire, Sylvanas called upon the Blood Elves for aid, given their ancient knowledge on Troll autonomy, culture, and weaknesses. Soras was amongst the first scholars to visit Zuldazar, they're here to spy and, if necessary, assassinate major political figures should Banshee Queen demands it.
But Rastakhan is no fool. You don't become the racial leader of blood-thirsty savages (thus Soras described) for over two hundred years without some political prowess. Soras and others were quickly assigns a "bodyguard" who'd escort and provide for the visotors as they traverse across the continent. Soras was assigned to Xau'jin as result.
When Soras was first informed of this away mission, he was thrilled by the opportunity to study Zandalari Trolls up close since there are very few specimen outside of Zandalar, but he never expected it to be quite literal... this Xau'jin creature is always in Soras's shadow, almost seems more curious about the Elves than the Elves themselves, scent of the spice and oil he anoints his body with is always within Soras's nostril, at times he could even sense Xau'jin's body heat through the wall of guest chamber. Soras knew the Trolls would retroactively peek on them, yet Xau'jin lacks even the subtlety (or intention?) to cover it up. Maybe the big oaf is confident in his approach, maybe he simply enjoys pestering the smaller man with barbaric masculinity, crude either way.
Despite all that, Xau'jin is an excellent tour guide for this gilded city. He's jovial, talkative, and protective of his Elvish charge, all qualities Soras appreciate... if they don't also happen when he's trying to rest or study! But underneath all that rudeness, Xau'jin is surprisingly perceptive, cunning, he even manages to decipher Sora's expertise of Troll Extermination just by examining places he visits, scrolls he picks up, even food recipes he read. When Xau'jin revealed his awareness, Soras was quick to raise protection, but Xau'jin simply unpacked his front armor and revealed his belly.
"You be wanting to cut this?" Xau'jin said, and threw a dagger at Soras's feet, "Wanna try?"
Enthralled by unfathomed motivation, perhaps with a little hatred and embarrassment mixed in, Soras drove the dagger through the Troll's abdomen. He immediately regretted it, realized he was risking the mission. Soras pulled the weapon out and tried to bandage Xau'jin with his robe, instead the Troll healed himself with Loa magic instantly.
"See?" Xau'jin chuckled, "You ain't not one hiding de secret."
Their relationship only became more bizarre after the incident. Soras no longer hides his disdain for Trolls in front of Xau'jin, often attempts to provoke the Troll with criticism and insults, then Xau'jin's would shut him up with clever sarcasm, all smiling. Others see them becoming enemies by the day, the two however seem to build up a friendship with all the jests and teasing. They don't know what's going to happen to the war, to the world, but somehow believing that they'd face it together.
Right now, Soras is more concern about Xau'jin asking him to read a bed time story... about Forest Trolls invading High Elf cities. This is after Xau'jin found out that Soras is in fact a few centuries older than him.
Xau'jin: "Da!"
Soras: "Oh shut up."
A wholesome piece done by TinaShuh!
Soras and Xau'jin are my Horde characters who're on a frenemy relationship, with potential of going further. If anything, Xau'jin is more than willing to let Soras study his anatomy. Trust me, he offered!
I think it's a good idea to share my less sordid stories, lest you folks see me as nothing but a severe pervert; you'd be almost correct, as usual. ^_^
