I'm not sure if his/its name should be Isbatur or Is'Batur. I like the latter more.

Anyway, he acts as the judge of the recently deceased and the watchman of the currently living on Vride Skriv. When not judging he stands (perched apparently on a floating thingy) in unmoving 'prayer', with his pseudo-eyes open. When judging his frill raises, the eyes close, and he becomes much more mobile, a la these scribbles.
