The moment I got this commission I knew I was going to try my hardest to make it look like an animation frame. The red fox character is simply named Samurai Fox, and because of that I thought of Samurai Jack and how Genndy Tartakovsky always uses color tones to build up his backgrounds. I tried to mimic that as best I could without making the image seem too busy, pulling together a night time bamboo forest scene with sticky mist floating around. The hands gave me trouble in this picture as did the sword, ironic that something so simple could be so bothersome. All in all though I enjoyed working on this commission and got to listen to a lot of wonderful new age music to help keep my mind inspired.
