Hopefully a handful of people still know about the cult classic movie, "Rock & Rule." As big as a fan I am of 80's nostalgia, I only discovered it myself earlier this year, but I'm glad I did.
Obscure 80's animation is usually interesting because at some point there was a group of animators that put effort and dedication into creating it. Whereas today there are millions of cheap, rushed, and god-awful CGI shit being cranked out every ten minutes just to keep your four-year-old quiet for a few minutes. This movie is not perfect by any means, but it fully held my attention and interest the whole time.
Basically, an aging glam-rock star wants to conjure up a demon from Hell in order to become immortal, and he needs someone with the perfect voice to sing the conjuring spell. I kind of got some creepy vibes that may not have supposed to have been there, kind of like the first time I saw Don Bluth films or the Felix The Cat animated movie and was shocked to see blood in it back then. It reminded me a lot of the Heavy Metal movie.
Either way, the soundtrack is amazing, and Debbie Harry makes it memorable. I'm usually not a fan of her, but I really liked her rendition of "Angel's Song" / "Send Love Through", and even the re-sampling she did of it in the 90's with the song "Maybe For Sure." And what is not cool about a villain who is kind of like an evil David Bowie/Mick Jagger? If you have an hour and a half to kill, it has what is called an "official upload" on a very famous video website, so give it a chance sometime.
