Until very recently, I had exactly the same problem. I have tons of experience, I have written all sorts of stories, but getting paid for that in any meaningful way, has been near impossible.
That was until I took a long look at my life and unhitched an entire train worth of baggage... Things are much more clear now. Timescales make sense and I can see a path that leads to the goal, as opposed to just the next step.
It has all been most refreshing.
