for those of you who are interested, here's a rough showing of the six major steps in how i work my art at the moment. It may seem similar to other artists, and that's probably because i'm always learning different methods and combining them. Anywayz, i hope this is a little help to someone.

well, in that step, i turn off the base colors and work only on the shading. using only one color i wont get distracted while i shade, and also means my shadows and highlights will be pretty even.
I use about 5 different layers to make up the shading stage, and i use them as masks when adding shading to the color in the 5th step.
and the brown is easy on the eyes, and also gives a better idea on things since its a fairly natural color. i used to do it in greyscale, but its straining on the eyes.

Always have to admire the different phases, and seeing them all together like this is inspirational. I especially love the sketch part. Because no matter what techniques you try to change or improve your digital style, the progress of the sketch is still a much more personal thing. :)
