Braid Ending Explained
!!!!WARNING: THIS HAS MAJOR SPOILERS!!!!
So if you haven't played and/or finished Braid, I suggest you finish the game first.
The game's ending can be interpreted in many ways, and this is my own view on how I see it.

the 'monster', is actually Tim himself

Braid Ending Explination
okies, in short:
The whole game is set in Manhattan, you can even see the Twin Towers in the Backround when your in the Attic, and its during the time and making and deployment of the Atomic Bomb, Tim is a Scientist who helped create and develop the bomb, and in the begining where you see the title, thats actually Manhattan on fire, now in the main story, Tim is on a quest to save the Princess from the 'monster', throughout the game, it explains why she was 'kidnapped' in the first place, explaining how Tim made a mistake and now to correct it, he's off to save her.
Showing just how much he loved her by showing the signifigance of the Ring that he had which if was removed from Tim, made everything so slow, because Tim cannot bare the fact of being away from his Princess, and the ring is the only simple he has left of his Princess, Now, here's the twist. in World 1, you see and think this "monster" is that big Knight trying to keep the Princess to himself, against her will, so as you run, you both are helping each other escape by working together to free all the traps, but then you get the Princess's bedroom where she's waiting for you, She Explodes,(I'll explain that in a moment)
Now when you "reverse time" you actually see that it's going forward in time, showing that what you just accomplished was just an illusion that Tim has created, so in the "reality" you see time move forward, and it shows that the Princess is actually trying to KILL you, you can see by all the Traps she's deploying out on you, which at first, looked like she was trying to help you but instead she was trying to run from you, so when you get to the end, you see the Princess cry for help as she trys to escape you, and the big Knight comes in to rescue her from you, and all the text you just witnessed from previous was actually her "hero" saving her, not being held against her will, which then leads you to the Epilog.
Which explains why Tim is so confused about what had just happened, it goes through what happened throughout his life, when you open the Red Book, for the first time, it shows the story of the past he had with the Princess, but when you open the hidden passages, it shows the TRUE story, showing Tim's obsession with Power, it even tells his Obuse he did toward his Princess he had, even explains how forcefull he was to her, like grabbing and tugging her arm forcefull, and pulling at her "Braid", it also explains his development of the Atomic Bomb, and his obsesssion with it, again, Tim's obsession with "Power"
This also involves his ability to manipulate time, in this obession to "control" that gave him Power, so the Princess is also as symbol for the Atomic Bomb as well, thats why when Tim got to her, she exploded, to show the damage he has created dispite his effort to fix it all, but in the end, this all leaves Tim very confused, he continues to set off on what had just happend, so its when he knows his own why to build his "Castle" he would need a "foundation", which is the quest he sets out on, so thats Why when you see Tim leave the Epilog, he ends up right at the beginning, to Manhattan buring in flames, where he starts his quest for his Princess So in the end
the 'monster', is actually Tim himself
