Thank you so much for the wonderful comment. With Lucy and Kate being more or less modern world but furry, it provided the rare opportunity to do a holiday themed piece. And while Lucy and Kate have been characters of mine for a long time they've bounced around universes until at last I kind of settled them in the realm I rarely deal with, the world more or less as we know it. But still, this means I've had a lot of time to develop this group of characters and really think about their familial relationship and in particular how Lucy and Kate were meant to complement each other.
That's an interesting history they have.
I would imagine placing characters in the modern world would have it's own set of challenges as while the mechanics are familiar, still there is so much unrealized going on around us each day.
We see the world and interact in it, but how much of it do we take for granted?

Yeah, for a while I couldn't decide where I wanted them. I'd had them with Lauren, their original idea was very different to say the least. But after a few permutations I decided they were best together and that they really complement each other through their family organizational structures which have stayed the same through iterations... Davis and Lucy have always been close siblings, they've had a single mom, etc...
But I think the story I have worked out will be a good one, as well as their permanent storyline.

This is adorable. I'm sorry it took me so long to get around to reading it, but it's a lovely little story, and very touching. Lucy and Kate make such a great couple, and I really like how much this does to further cement their relationship, as well as to expand a bit on their respective pasts, especially Kate's. It made me tear up a bit, because it is so very sweet, and you've done a lovely job with this!
I'm just glad that you did. :) I definitely tried hard to put a bit of character development into this comparatively short piece, and sort of indicate where the story is going that chronologically precedes this, with a lot of their relationship being how they complete each other. Add to that some good holiday warmth, and I think it makes for a heartwarming Christmas tale. :)
Kate's backstory has shifted a bit but a lot of the main points just kind of stuck, no matter what shape her story took, and especially when I realized she and Lucy were meant to fit together, it just kind of all gelled.
Glad you enjoyed. :)
