I have been in furry for awhile (I'm old) and I have seen art from disturbing and outrageous to questionable to moral ethics of most (even furry)people.
Now of course there is the official "cub" label. I disapprove of this label because I believe you should just let the age be judged by the viewer. I have drawn "Tiny Toons" porn and their ages have been under speculation since the show came out. After all "T T" are mostly characters who have cartoon bodies with little to no human features so you be the judge.
Now some art and story goes so far as to completely remove any question that this is a underage character. With this those creators have reported getting messages from people that seem to want to take the next step from fantasy to reality.
If we draw and write "cub" there will no doubt be the attraction of real pedophiles and those who are actually looking for a forum to promote their cause. That little triangle medal around pedo-cat's neck is a real symbol of pedophile beliefs.
I ask that when you come across these people that you tell them simply that you have no desire for their cause and say furry is not for it.

Its to bad they took that symbol, because I've drawn that symbol every since I was a kid. I've always liked beautiful geometric art like that. But anyway, at least now I know what graffiti to draw in the bathroom for the lulz now. LOL.

Oh, well, this I can agree on, but this wouldn't be the first time that people have tried to use "furrydom" to promote a peculiar cause, would definitely not be the last, and will be about as successful. It says a lot about a cause when you have to turn to furries as a power base.
I drew like FiFI with tits because I wanted to show age (also tits are awesome) but when I thought about Buster I wondered what would I change? Nothing really. I am not denying I haven't drawn things that are borderline. It is all drawn with the intention of being of legal age. I am just saying that with our porn and perhaps even with those who are in REAL porn we are going to attract pedophile activity and our answer to those people should be GTFO!!

Oh really!? Aww I read your profile, 40 huh? That's interesting dude, well I got into furrydom through cartoon animals and anthros. It's what my fursona is based on. I'm very happy to hear your against the wave of pedo in furry art. ^^ If it weren't for this, no one would be so hesitant to call themselves furry then, I know the pedo side makes me hesitant to tell others publically.
Well I have said in my journals that furry is basically who you hang with, nothing more then that. What does calling yourself furry mean when so many others do something completely different?

I joined in the early days of the internet and I do remember the term "anthro" being used a lot more before furry rolled it over. It makes more sense to call the fans anthros and the characters furries, then to call both the characters and fans both furries.
Back then, it was all VCL and Furnation, and that was pretty much it. I can't hardly imagine pre-internet furry, much less that its origins go all the way back to the 70's at least and may even have some roots in the 60's.

Oh I would just blame that on human nature. People do interject porn in areas that they need real human relationships and often the one-sided appeal of porn makes it so that they never have anything else. Porn is mostly selfish you don't need commitment and you don't use love. I have seen a few artists just drop out because its hardly enough of a drive.
As well as the need for money. Speaking for myself my job of ten years screwed me so I use art and porn to make ends meet. If my job payed me what I have earned i would happily spend time improving my art for stories.

If I had the talent to actually draw decent art, I'd probably only spend about 5% of my art efforts in drawing porn. The rest would be me trying to capture other aspects of the human experience that appeal to me. It would depend on what I'm inspired to draw, really. Being so logic oriented makes it really hard for me to get inspired to create art. The realization of how ridgedly consistent nature is regarding its rules utter killed my ability to imagine the impossible or even the unlikely.
I hate to say it, but porn gets boring really fast, and if people don't keep adding newer and stranger fetishes, they loose interest. Light TD/BDSM is about as kinky as I tend to get, which is pretty mild for the fandom's standards, but its always worked for me as long as I keep it in small doses.

thats what my former art teacher said about drawing it has nothing to do with talent, its time and practice. So when these guys tell you something about art listen to them. they have the expericance. B&W comics have a charm to them that a color comic can not give. anyways thanks for sharing your art with us over the years.

I'm of the opinion that child porn should be legal under freedom of speech since it is information, however the act of a legal adult creating child porn and actual sexual contact with a minor by an adult should remain illegal with strict and consistently enforced penalties.
And I would obviously like laws reformed so that children do not get convicted of child pornography because they took nude photos of themselves with their own cell phones or were sent a nude photo by their girl friend or boyfriend. And yes, this has actually gotten kids in middle and high school into serious legal trouble.

I don't think porn is information beyond say a historical perspective.. With kids having sex and passing it around for status Im sort of on the side of the law on that. While the law might be hard getting a incurable VD would even be harder. If a student did knowingly pass a VD could he or she be charged with anything beyond the crime of the sex itself?

You misunderstand. I'm not talking about minors having unprotected sex. I'm talking about sexting where kids share nude photos of themselves. Back in my day, the kids in photography class would take photos of their girlfriends and develop them in the school's photo lab without the school's knowledge. A friend of mine always kept a nude photo of his girl in his wallet at all times, and it was very explicit (genitals showing). I saw that when I was 14 years old. He was 15, and if he got caught today under today's laws, he'd be a convicted child pornographer and get slapped with the designation of "sex offender" for the rest of his life, even though he was only being a horny teenage male doing exactly what you would expect with a horny teenage female. He was sexually active with his girlfriend, though, but did use protection. That was back in the early to mid 90's.

Where I live, we only have outbreaks of teen pregnancy, which probably means that strong Christian influence leads to a lot of monogamous fornication, especially when parents think condoms do nothing but encourage kids to have more sex, as if avoiding the consequences was the one thing that kept kids from being irresponsible. Actually, avoiding consequences is probably one of the most responsibility things a human being could possibly do.

But even if it is of photos, I don't consider anything beyond the original exploitation to be a violation of a child's privacy. In other words, arrest the guy who took the picture, not the people he anonymously distributed copies to. Right now, getting caught with child porn means you are guilty until proven innocent, so if somebody sent it to you (a non-pedo) without your consent, you are guilty of the crime. The "act" of simple possession, be it with any type of prohibition, includes the innocent as well as the guilty. You'll note that I put the word "act" in quotes because possession is a state of non-action.

I don't compare porn to violence I compare porn to porn. There are few games where violence is the goal and most violence is cartoony in nature and not something close to the real thing.

But you're right. Furry is a blanket kink/perversion/fetish. You can be furry and ____; very few items are strictly based upon the furry universe... it's usually a collaboration of a lot of different desires with a furry blanket tossed ontop.

I've been thoroughly bashed in another thread for expressing my concerns about the cub porn in FA. So you've come off easily, dear... I'm a RL parent, so I know what it's all about - trying to protect children from abuse.

I can guess why this simple triangular symbol was chosen. It is meaningless, in and of itself. It was chosen to be invisible. That is, it would not stand out or be obvious to anyone what it meant. it would also be visually appealing to those who weren't involved so that 'outsiders' might also wear it. That permits an amount of 'cover' so that if a person is seen wearing it, they can deny knowing what it stood for. As it stands, the 'geometric triangle' could also be considered to be a pyramid (push upward on the center) and therefore be considered a symbol of belief in pyramid power.
In short, it was chosen as a symbol because of its anonymity and its 'fade into the background' quality. If you're not looking for it, you won't notice it. If you don't have an insiders' knowledge of the implications, you won't react to it.

I'm not a absolutist about setting down a some rule. Not gonna freak about every piece of art with a animal character with little to no human features. However the more people dive into it and start naming it like it was a genre then your going to draw out people with extremist views.

With any lets say "corporate" cartoon characters your gong to run across areas that you may not like. Peoples taste on the various shows that they watch may vary. While its good to be wary of the people that might come along with "cub" art its also try not to get too excited over it.

This kind of reminds me of something I like ranting about. If I may...
If furries weren't so eager on pushing their label "furry" on everything remotely related, this problem wouldn't even exist. That's the problem with this "furry" term I've had for a very long time - it's very vague, obsessively trying to incorporate EVERYTHING having both human and animal traits in it, AND make it into a distinct lifestyle to be followed, AND THEN trying to control what is and isn't furry (which means: what is and isn't "everything having both human and animal traits") but not in the sense of conceptual definition of the word, but in the sense of actual artistic expression - you're not supposed to draw underage anthropomorphic characters; not to identify those characters with "furry", but to actually draw. I hate this "fandom" and "lifestyle" ring to the term "furry" - it automatically implies that if you draw human/animal hybrids (that's the only vague definition of the word "furry"), you're part of it and you should CARE about it like a true furry-patriot, pushing our common political cause forward! Well I'm fucking NOT part of the furry lifestyle, I'm interested in the stylistic possibilities of anthropomorphic animals, possibly in an erotic/pornographic context, and possibly to some frightening extent if shock is my value, and want nothing to do with the lifestyle whatsoever. If I want to explore taboo sexual deviations in my work as an artist, i'm going to do so; if someone is going to come around pushing their precious label "furry" on it, it's THEIR problem, I've expressed my desire to distance myself from the term plenty of times, and yet people still insist... That's just irksome, it's like an auto-renewal of subscription of some software you don't use, casually taking a bit of money from your bank account every month; and if you disable it, it re-enables again after a month or two.
Whatever happened to the term anthropomorphic? That was a very precise, matter-of-fact deffinition of a genre, quite broad and yet without any political strings or implications of a lifestyle. Could you apply same problems to the term "anthropomorphic"? Most likely not, because it's a methodological description, and not a political label.
Ofcourse "anthropomorphic" can also be taken out fo context, I remember in the late 90s (when i first came across this furry thing) there were two distinct stylistic camps: the furries and the anthros - and it was pretty fun watching them try to define each other, sometimes fighting each other over details like plantigrade or digitigrade feet. Then the practice somehow went away and we were left with just the term "furry".
Also, designing a character that indulges in taboo sexual practices doesn't nescessarily mean the designer does. If you design a zoophile, you do research and borrow the symbols (like the paw pendant, or more recent - letter zetta), if you design a pedo, you do the same. Exploration isn't the same thing as championing a cause. I, for one, enjoy drawing things that turn me off or disgust me, just to see how shocking or non-shocking they may be or to wrap my head around the issues - that doesn't mean i'm all-fours yay-hooray for that stuff.

I wouldn't stress about the sillier side of furry. I used to but then as shit got worse some of the extremes became less extreme. I sat at a table at one con with a group of furrys I never met before within ten minutes I got the impression that they were in great need of perhaps many things. They were substituting the important things of life with furry.
Of course I did this too but as the years caught up it was either fight to improve or turn towards apathy and decay. Fight hard for your own life to improve and maybe you will be strong enough to help someone else.

This has probably already been touched on, but meh, your image statement made me realize exactly what the problem is with the whole "What is cub, and how to stop it" problem.
You said you should be the judge of a characters age, and I think you are right: most folks do just that already. the problem is some folks are predisposed to think the worst right off the bat, if you give them the chance. Then out of that group take those wishing to champion a cause, and chaos can ensue.

I'm of the same era as you are, I just turned 40. I was involved in the small press comics scene for years until the interwebs took me over and making photocopies suddenly seemed like a pointless affair.
I like to understand why I feel the way I do, or why things are the way they are. Its so easy just to say pedophiles are pricks and move on, but I want to know why this is the case. The reason is children are not capable agents for making important choices that will affect their mental and/or physical selves. Sex has a lasting affect on people. Therefore any sexual act aimed at a child is a violation of that child in every sense of the word.
So pedophilia is morally wrong and justifiably illegal. I understand that this is considered a psychological disorder and it might not be something a person chose to have, but that gives no one a blank check to indulge their disorder at the expense of children.
For the artist drawing explicitly underage porn it is a subtle difference. Technically, no one is hurt by it directly. So it should not be illegal. Just as it is your freedom to think whatever thoughts you like, it should be your freedom to draw them. But I think it is a very good idea for artists to be aware of what they are putting out into the world and how it could be used and to make choices reflecting that awareness.
For my part, I do not encourage "cub" art, I don't click on it, I certainly don't "fave" it, and I have no interest in drawing it.

The point i was making here is that shit becomes wrong when it goes too far. What is too far? Real pedos trying to use furry as a forum.

Cultures have been at war. I watched my best friend lose her little one to her dick of a husband and the bastard judge chose the pedo over the pot smoker. He taught her to hate me and the rest of her mothers friends; she only loves him. I don't know what to do because even when he's not around and I still try and say hi to her she do this habit thing now where she touches herself like some sex addict. It is damaging to kids but not as much in the way you would think. The father grew up in a family that did the same to him as his sister is also his daughter. It's troublesome to me but I refuse to war with it anymore unless asked for help. I'm at war with greater mischief that threatens my food, water, and family.
If it makes you feel any better most cultures were never this way before European interference and the crown has been most of the time responsible for radical religion and cult groups supported by their close connections that appear to be trusted natives but are instead tools for the British crown. Cabals are put into place and cartels are organized to strengthen the few over the world; it's been like this before any of us.
