Substantial Renovation - Comic Edition (step 1)
(Apologies for the bloated filesize. I know that GIF is better for lineart like this. However FA is currently refusing to allow this image as a .GIF, even accompanied by a .JPG thumbnail, so until that's resolved, I'm afraid these WIP images are going to be bigger and look sloppier than they should)
This image is quite old. It actually predates my entry into VCL, which makes it more than 5 years since I drew it. It's part of a 40 page comic I placed on my ISP-provided webspace at http://railride.home.mindspring.com.....siv/comics.htm to provide a sort-of backstory to the comic I post to VCL today. (Check it out--see my artwork improve with the practice:)
I dropped this page from the comic owing to concerns about its composition (I had sought opinion from folks who frequented Yerf at the time since I had recently considered applying for a spot there), and drew a different page to replace it. I always thought this pic was pretty decent on its own though, and tried to color it in color pencil as an experiment. Luckily I made photocopies because the effort didn't turn out very well (I didn't know about layering and burnishing). At this time, the whereabouts of the original and the clean copies are unknown to me. This particular photocopy is the only one I could locate, it being used as a scribble sheet to test the color pencils on.
In deciding to color it digitally, and knowing a fair number of folks like to see works in progress, I've decided to place the major steps in my scrap bin. When complete, the image will be moved to the regular gallery and the WIP-s removed (unless I'm asked to keep them up). Of course, if you're watching me, you'll see the stages as I upload them.
At this stage, I've only removed the extensive smudging caused by photocopying inks with pencil lines still present, and the color-pencil scribbles.
