This is my very first whack at writing an actual story, so don't be surprised if it's not all that great. I'm fairly proud of it, I wrote it in one sitting, and after a buncha spell checks and grammar fixes, here it is. I didn't know what to call it, so I titled it after one of the characters.

I very much enjoyed this. Well written, a solid plot (that fits nicely with my cynical outlook :P ) and believable dialog and characters.
The clerk asking for a signature made me chuckle, a fun little detail for you to put in, as well as adding to the irony of the 'theft'.
Definitely a good story! ^.^

This story is great. It seems all the other comments have pretty much said all that needs to be said about the story itself, so I suppose I'll tell you how I felt about it.
I love stories like this, stories that can force people to question their ides about justice and what exactly is "right". I find myself annoyed my people who consider justice in absolute terms. "This is wrong. Period." No need for contemplation in regards to motive or environment or the like. The system ALWAYS works. Hmph. Very irksome indeed.
I was saddened by Alex's death, but I was able to see it coming. Although I'm a fan of happy endings, I knew that there was no way that this story could end with him living unless he went to prison, and that wouldn't have been a happy ending either. Ah well.
Once again, a very nice story, and I'm glad that you posted it.
