Lol. It's hard to deal with, though. The unending storm of terribly uncreative pokemon.

First off, creativity is a very basic tenet of good design, as a good design is catching and memorable. By its own nature, an uncreative design is not catching or memorable and is therefore a bad design.



Secondly, creativity has nothing to do with it. These evolutions just plain look like shit, creative or not; which is sad, as until now I could not think of any 5th gen Pokémon I particularly disliked and I was really interested in the fire starter.



I agree that older Pokémon generations are hardly any better in terms of "good Pokémon"; the original 151 are full of lousy stupid tripe like Exeggutor while G/S/C's 99 were just a nightmare

Basic yes but not required. Anything can be rehashed and made beautiful and people will flock to it and say it is the best thing ever when in fact it is the same old crap with a prettier label.

As for the evolutions, they all (in my eyes) are good design, they all are solid and logical evolutionary steps for said pokemon (save for wotter's final, seems very unconnected imo, not that it is bad). All of them however are appealing to me, while some of the pokemon are 'what' all of them are well rounded designs.

The reason why this generation is met with so much disdain, is that they are no longer trying to reach out to just one specific group or groups in general, which is the same reason why the second generation was considered ugly, as they tried to make pokemon more 'realistic and mature' The third and fourth generations are reaching out to specific groups which in all honesty is quite obvious and is hard to deny. The problem with Gen 5 is that they are trying to not only reach new groups, but also incorporate the previous likes and dislikes of pokemon.

I think they're just running out of wit with names, and also tacking on giant ugly evolutions to the older pokemon. G2 and G1 were brilliant in my opinion, with a lot of clever names and at least functional-looking body parts.

My main beef is that there's just too many generations. After the first 2 or 3, everything gets a little crazy.

While we're biasedly throwing opinions around, might I point out that I abhor the starter evolutions, despite having no particular dislike for any other revealed 5th generation Pokémon.

The evolutions are all disgusting but this is common to Pokémon in general and not at all unique to B/W.

i really love a lot of the new ones <3
some of them look terrible like the garbage can and a lot of the fighting types, some are basically cheapo clones like the three monkies or the three flying legendaries, but overall i'm really liking how these turned out and can't wait for the games to be released in America so I can play with the cool ones like the sarcophagus, the lantern one, the veggie lamb x3

a lot of these are so creative and win <3 and they are definitely trying something new with these, especially the type combination, so i applaud

Personally I like all of the new pokemon (The three element monkies actually are in my tops) As for the three flying legendaries, there are only so many types you can go through in the series, and in my experience I usually use legendaries for HM purposes thus, flying types kind of make sense :Uc

i like the first forms of the monkies, but not the second ones
and i don't like the garbage bag ones and a few of the fighting ones look kinda eeehhh to me D:
well, no, i like the flying type, but the way they look (all the same with minute differences) kinda is like >:( ugh, you could have at least made them all look a different instead of just copy paste, color change, and different thing around them.

DDD; Why didn't they just make it a badass boar that was on all fours and like, Fire Rock or something? Not make aNOTHER FireFighter, that's make THREE...THREEEEEEEE. Blaziken was the only cool Firefighter in my book, but I did like Infernape's design.


*SIGH* OH WELL. I do like Mijimaru's evolutions, it just remind's me of the dragonite chain, the final evo doesn't match at all, but it's so kickass, I can't complain. He's my choice. ;P

I will forever live in denial of the Wotter final evo. Probably throw an Everstone on it.

Personally, I don't think it's too different from the older generations. There are some great pokemon in there, and a lot of okayish ones, but that's to be expected. In any event, the new generation will bring us more creatures to put into porn scenarios, which is always a plus.

I like the water starter's evolution actually~ It's neat compared to it's counterpart.

Unlike Pochama, which becomes ugly. Beastly strong, but ugly nevertheless.

I just find it weird that they'd make an Ice Cream Pokemon and Garbage Can pokemon. xo Wth? Aren't Pokemon supposed to be.. Animals? I realize there were some Pokemon who weren't animals before in previous gens like Rotom. But this time its getting alittle rediculous.

That aside Futachimaru is the most awesome form of the starters. <3 But his 3rd form.. It just fails.. >.> But compared to Pokabu's forms in my opinion makes it look decent. Pokabu just simply sucks. His Evos. Not his basic form. Tsutaja is great in all 3 forms.

Are you kidding me? I love his final evolution, The reason however is with the Fire/Fighting type he is more in the shape of a sumo wrestler (Futachimaru's second evolution being much like a samurai) This is why I like them, I agree halfway on his final, I like it in the sense that the design is nice, but not the fact that it evolves from wotter.

All of these are my favorite evolutions of the respective pokemon, SumoPig, Feetsnake, SamuraiWotter. Deal with it...

Futachimaru should have been Water/Fighting. His 3rd evo I agree is a nice design. but it should as you said been a stannd alone form. Or at least of a different evolution line pokemon. Futachimaru should have evolved into a more samurai-ish two leg standing pokemon.

Now that they showed all pokemon on Pokebeach. i now know I like only 68 of the 156 pokemon. xo However I am not going to let that stop me from getting these awesome games. :p

Maybe it will be like Blaziken (Blaziken can also be fire/flying)

Going on the point about animals and Pokemon. Who said Pokemon had to be animals. If I was correct their original name was Pocket Monsters. Also Pokemon like Roselia, Gengar, Misdreavus, Geodude, Hitomoshi (the candle), and Desukan say hi :V. Pokemon don't have to put animals.

Also I'm not complaining about the starters the evolutions (Sans the Final Stage of Mijumaru). Everyone is Q.Q over Pokabu being Fire/Fighting. Hell I'm not complaining. Fire/Fighting is a good competitive typing. Plus its a frikkin Wrestler, I'm definantly not complaining about the design.

All the comments about this generation having bad designs...I don't get it .
These are my favorite evolutions of the starters this gen, and I've already seen some creative looking Poké's just walking down route 5 and such (not counting Yorterri or that chipmunk thing...but last gen there was Bidoof so...I wasn't surprised) like that Yuniran. That's a cool psychic jelly thing.
