In case You're too young to remember there was a popular video game called space invaders on the system Atari and Clecovision systems.

Rik shows off one his favorite art pieces from his favorite artist to Morti who as usual is unimpressed.

Morti plays the role of the skeptic, he is the Scully to Rik's Mulder. He has had a difficult life and does not believe in anything he cannot readily prove, see, hear, feel, or other wise perceive...

Brutally honest, he is a blunt straight shooter. Which makes it hard for him to keep friends.

Despite thier differences Morti has always gotten along with Rik.

In this Universe Morti is actually Choob's son and not biologically related to Rik.
Choob is a very busy code writer and owns the Furi Bar and Arcade where Morti often hangs out. While he does try to be a good father and loves Morti very much, he is often very involved in his work and often leaves Morti in Rik's care frequently. Even though Morti is a kid and Rik is an adult, for some reason Morti tends to view Rik as he would another kid about his age only taller.
