This is what happens when you're on your 12th Mustang... you build a collage to remind you of how dang many you've owned! I still have the white 89 GT as a project car. The rest have been scrapped/traded/sold to move on to the next one. I built this into a desktop backround as well.

I hated those Rs. I wasn't sure on the backspacing with the lowering springs I had. I went to a major wheel manufacturer down in LA to get the rims and a set of Nitto 555s for the car. They guessed on the size being ok and just as I left the parking lot the rears caught the fender well and carved a line in the sidewall of each new tire. After I traded in the GT I met the new owner and warned him about that, and he went out and repeated the same mistake. After he carved up a new set of tires he swapped the rims for something more useful.
And another knock against them. I was headed north on I-5 coming up from LA and it was right around midnight. I had Flowmasters on the GT by that point and it was pretty loud. As I've got cruise control on I drove past a CHP that was writing someone up on the shoulder. When I went by I saw him look up from the ticket and follow me as I drove by. Sure enough about 10 minutes later a see a pair of headlights slide out from the car behind me and as he pulled out I saw the pusher bar on the front. He sped up and dropped in right behind my bumper trying to bait me. I had bumped the cruise control right down to speed limit exact and just sat there. Eventually he got bored and moved on, tagged an Explorer up ahead of me. But those rims are the only thing he could've seen on that car at night. After that I swore off silver rims on the fast cars to be more stealth. That's why the Mach and the Cobra had black rims.

Those run in progressive order. My first new car was the green 2000 V6 top center. Then just kept flipping up to the higher model every few years when I had better pay/job to go with it. The red 65 was my first and that was an inline six with no options and a non-snychro 3-speed. It was literally the base base model. So nothing wrong with starting small.
The thing that bothers me the most about the last few years is how much the prices have jumped. It used to be 20K or less to get a V6 and now they push them closer to 30K. If you go new, sign up for Mustang Club of America. Members automatically get the no-haggle X-plan price through Ford. Best deals I ever got were waiting for the end of the year when they're desperate to get rid of the year old new models. I only paid 24K for that black 09 brand new because the 2010s were already out and they had 4 2009's sitting on the lot still.
I also made a ton of really poor decisions along the line that tacked debt on top of debt, but it was fun and I still miss having a Stang as a daily driver, even if they're horribly impractical in the "fun" versions. I'm kicking around the idea of hunting down another 03-04 Mach 1 for daily use, but they're all pretty high mileage cars these days. That or wait patiently for the new Focus ST to come out since I can't afford a BOSS. ;)

Hee, see. that's my plan. I've got about 30k or so to spend on a Mustang. I could be silly and go get a Boss or Shelby, but I'd never pay it off working 12 an hour.
But if I save for a good year or two and wait until new models are out, I'm pretty much set to get a good deal on a year old car (Just as good as new, in my book.)
I did some comparisons, and a 2013 Mustang with the things I'd like included (Audio system, leather seats, etc.) costs about the same as the Camaro I was looking at getting.
2012 model? A cool 7000 dollars saved, all because it's a year older. All the same features and premium V6 on top of it. I'll take 30k over 37k any day. :p

You are one 'Stang lover! I own a 1990 Mustang LX, and it has the 5.0 liter engine, 5 speed transmission, and it is a hatchback. This is my first car, and was a steal at $4,000! But like you, I hope to own many of the models like you have presented! I hope to get a Mach 1 or one like that Cobra you have presented in the middle. We currently own 5 in our family, and i think I will get through many models before i pass on, but you are one true Mustang fan! May I ask which models still remain in your possession? Just curious!
I still have the bronze 65 and the white 89. One of those is getting a hard push this year to be in really good driving condition for the 50th anniversary in Vegas next year. I'd like to put the push on the 89 so I can swap out to a 5-lug setup, swap the auto to a 5 speed and use the AODE transmission from the 89 in the 65 eventually so that one will have an overdrive gear. Either that or I go all in on the 65 this year and go through the tranny/rear end, swap to disc brakes all around and maybe get the A/C reinstalled this year.
