Walruses (Odobenus rosmarus) are a species of large pinniped found in the Arctic Ocean and subarctic seas, particularly in shallow waters along continental shelves.

Walrus tusks (which can weigh up to 5 kg and reach a metre in length) aren’t just for fighting and impressing mates – they’re also used to aid locomotion, from hauling onto sea ice to stabilizing the walrus as they eat molluscs on the sea floor.
