Picture Book Illustration #3 - They Sang Sad Songs
An illustration from my children's picture book project, "The Tale of Sondrew and Ballad", about human lad Sondrew Hayne and his gryphon friend Ballad Quill, who are both musicians.
This is part three of a four-part passage on the types of songs they like to sing. Already done are Sweet Songs and Scary Songs, still to come is Silly Songs.
This is it, folks. The picture that almost finished me off. I've been working on it for a ridiculously long time, and dozens of other projects that were started after it got completed in that time. At some points, I could almost have cried as they're doing in this pic ;). It's not the most complex picture I've ever done, but every single aspect seemed to require extensive revision. I looked at the oriignal pencil sketch recently and it looks radically different from the finished picture. Some aspects of Ballad, such as his beak, got redesigned, which means I'll have to go back and revise the previous two.
Note: Unlike some of the works in my gallery, this pic isn't intended to be "hot" in any way. It's just cute innocent fun. However, more hot muscle pics are also in the works.
