Fun fact Tien was originally supposed to be an alien as well in the series. Except that the producers(i mean look it up dbz is a case study of infighting between the creative team and the corporate producers. For a follow up, also look into a similar situation with the production of bleach) nixed the idea because 'you already did that with goku, and piccolo.'
Edit: yajirobe was at least USEFUL once. he cut vegetta's tail.
