Two of my friends got married a couple of weeks ago. They are both wonderful artists.
Last semester the Keaton-mask lookin' one was my roommate. He and his better half experienced most all of Fallout 3 together in those days. It's awfully fun to watch, and was singlehandedly the main reason I got interested in the game industry.
EDIT: This couple got a divorce, which makes an image called "Fallout Marriage" featuring their imminent demise by deathclaw all the more telling, I guess. :(

Blizzard seems to be more interested than Arenanet, and Ubisoft is still waiting on my sci-fi stuff, which I'm finishing up still.
The pay's better in the techy side - but hey, if it was about the money it wouldn't be illustrating would it :V
Have you tried the 3D stuff? I've always been interested in how that stuff can help, quite a few artists use it. A lot of the concept artists for EPIC usually mock up their techy concept art in 3D apps (to keep it consistent at different angles) and paint over - also helps they can hand that mock up to the 3D guys too :I

Sketchup make the games modeler in me angry. It's not friendly as to what's actually going on with itself and teaches bad habits :I
If you're trying those and going into games you should give Silo a go. It's like the SAI Painter Tool of the 3D world - stripped down, super powerful with what it does, not very well known, and comparatively inexpensive.
Blender, I like Blender and its definitely worth learning (it's free!), but it's also very unusual. Silo is pretty much a stripped down and better version of what you get in Maya and ZBrush for modeling, whereas Blender is just... Weird. Even if it does have the best UV Unwrapping in the industry.
