hmm these guys reminds me of this Age of Empire unit you could use, though then it was part of the Mongol civilization, perhaps the polish Cossacks came from there or it was somehow implemented into the Mongol civilization once reaching europe? I mean the Age of Empire series is usually rather correct since it's meant for history peeps and such.

well according to wikipedia the Mongol were in that particular area after and around the reformation and eventual downfall of western Rome (they were part of the reason by displacing the local Germanic and Slavic tribes inside their borders and such) and it's speculated that they either brought their traditions with them or they embraced local traditions into their own culture so it's quite possible. Unless it is specifically from a different era I donno when these particular thing arose obviously ^^;

Huzzaria -Light Cavalery invented by Hungarians. After Stephen Bathory (nephew of THAT Elizabeth Bathory) became king of Poland the Word Huzzaria were used to name Polish wingged Cavalery (but it was little changged into HUSSARIA because they used totally diferent techniques)

You are probably talking about KRYM (where in XVII th century Krym's Khanate were situated and THAT was the place where decendents of mongols were liveing)


and yup...I am Polish :D so when i heard that Hussaria was Mongols unit i (and my friends from Russia, England, Japan Ukraine Germany) was just like " WTF " ?

Hussaria was created 15 th century (but WINGGED HUSSARIA apeared in 17th)

Turkish and Perssian clothes style (not everything...fe TURBAN) were very popular because (and thasts funny story) Polish nobles belived that they were decendents of Sarmats (Of course that was not true because that tribe were liveing far far far far away from that area)

I became uncertain though it was a mongol unit when I read your comment and decided to look up just what the unit I was thinking of was named and if it really was of the mongol civilization (I needed to be 100% and such). Well I found out that it's not a mongol SPECIFIC unit it's one that is an upgrade on another unit which the mongols are not alone to have, the Huns have them too for instance along with the Byzantines, Celts, Goths, Koreans, Mongols, Persians, Sarecens, Spanish and Turks. Though reading up on the background stories in the pamphlet of the game I have I came to think that the unit was probably implemented for gameplay as there is no way that all those civilizations could have developed the same cavalry unit, especially not since they were so diverse and spread across the globe. The Hussars in the game is probably a common name for these civilizations equals to the Hungarian Hussars and the designers did not want to have to implement a different name and/or model and/or graphics just for that detail.

Oh well I appologize for making a mess and taking up your time just cuz I was too lazy to look it up before I opened my big mouth. ^^;

I suppose as much, it was neat reading that page too. Mostly cuz I'm Swedish and I especially got to read up on how them hussars annihilated 11.000 of our Caroliners with 1000 of yours, albeit they were infantry and yours were cavalry but still some impressive numbers there ^^ Though I do think to compensate I'll have to bring up that our king Gustav II Adolf (Gustavus Adolphus) managed to fight off both the Danes, Russians and Polish attackers from all sides. Win each war and take mayor land in the process after he had whooped all of their asses around a little. After which he went down and helped the Protestant Germans in the Thirty Year Wars and won some more battles there, and died doing it ^^

And while I still remembers it, our nations once shared a common king, Sigismund III Vasa (Zygmunt III Waza) the son of a polish princess and the short time king of Sweden John III if I can recall my history lessons correctly. So there you have that ^__^

Our nations are simply the best ^^
you had great infantry (the best infantery in XVII th century)
We had the best Cavlery units who were slaughtering peoples with cannons support rifles pikes etc using just long lances in outnumbered situations (even you must say 10 people with rifles and one guy with cannon had better chances against one horse rider with long lance)

We also had to deal with many opponents at the same time but (its really hard to say that for me cuz i am Noble :D ) Our nobles ruined that !!!
They started to take care about their own buisness not about motherland god damn it... *sighs*

Oh I am not disagreeing at all, the numbers speaks for themselves. 11.000 vs 1000 and the quantity underdog winning? Damn that is epic, the way I envisions it is like the Rohirrim on the plains outside of Minas tirith in Lord of the Rings.

It's fun though pretty much all other country in the world at the time was highly advanced, had factories, enormous cities and elaborate trade routes all across the world. Well we only had the trade routes otherwise we were pretty much a band of angry peasants armed with guns running around Europe and the mere thought of the Caroliners as a band of farmland oafs is incredibly funny to me xD

I've heard of the Polish governmental system sorta cracked and came down on their own heads though. One noble was enough to put in a veto and no decision could be made, we have a saying here "Polsk Riksdag" which roughly translates into "Polish Parlament" which in turn means a form of organized chaos as onlookers would see the leaders squabble and fight amongst each other while at the same time not being able to do anything as the others had veto (as said just one noble was enough to stop a proposition in its tracks). So I can see how their own interests would come in the way and such.

"Veto" was a myth accually.
It was not easy to say Veto on gahering (you had to have support of many others) so it was not so easy to say that.
Thing which really was cracked was problems Nobles...well...Not all of them

for example Jan Zamoyski who had his own Town (Zamość) When he recived proposition to join to Gustav Adolfus side ( Gustavus sent him a letter where was written in the end "Join to me and i will kiss your bouth cheeks like brother in arms") Zamoyski (now its written ZAMOJSKI) climbed on the tower and showed ....his bare ASS and shouted "Kiss that mother*****er". Gustavus who was (and now...its a shame for polish nobles) used to that our nobles were joining his side ...When he revived that..response from Zamojski HE WAS TOTALLY SHOCKED
He even tried to conquer Zamość but the keep was to hard to take (some pictures of that keep you may see in my gallery) so he decided to stop the attack and in order to feel better he burned some villages XD
(Jan Zamoyski is my encestor...i had to say that XD please dont kill me XD)
The biggest traitor of polish nobles was Janusz Radziwił (who the most rich motherfucker in Europe !!!) and he was sending money to Gustavus (cuz he promised him a lot of wealth !)

Geez...

If we could have UNION with each other...All WORLD would probably talking in Polish and Swedish right now XD
