Oh ok, good point, tweaked it a bit, and it has more even density now especially since the bulbous part will probably be the more detailed.
I don't like texturing either :[ I really gotta learn to like it.
And it's a warhammer :) but you are not the first to call it a staff so you guys are probably onto something heh

Nice. Will be good to see them textured.
I usually think of unwrapping and especially the packing of the UVs like a puzzle game like tetris or something, that helps get past the tedium.
What type of texturing do you like to do most if you're not so much a fan of texturing? Painted or photo-manip'ed? What materials are in the weapons, wood, iron, crystal or etc? After that how much have they been used, would they have claw marks on the staff from where the person welded it, rust bits or cracks along the blade from were it connected with the target. Google
reference weathered material that fits what you want to simulate and that can also help give ideas.
Be cool to see where you take these.

Thanks.
Well... I guess that works but half of it is just 3dsmax being stupid about it. Not the best unwrapper. My biggest issue is getting a smooth and consistent map. Packing is a small task after that (then, these maps are somewhat wasteful)
I don't like to do texturing at all. A guy called Ionis will be doing it for me, primarily. The style is like this http://www.uesp.net/wiki/File:Madnessweapons.jpg (the set we are expanding) so a dull/matte metal with very organic, writhing patterns. I do not know if cracks and rust are such a good idea, since in the game, you obtain them fresh from the smith rather than off fallen enemies.

I can see that, but there will still be some form of wear just not as obvious, smaller imperfections you'd get from a blacksmith handling it over an assembly line, which that would even still have imperfections though very slight.
Bunch of different ways to tackle unwrapping, I usually stick to what max gives me though it's been nice that they added some of maya's better unwrapping tools to max in the past couple versions.
