When she closed her eyes, the lost aalukris would visit her home in her dreams. Where the light came not from above, but everywhere all around. From the mushrooms, the moss, the motes of glowing pollen that drifted down from the flowers, the canopies. Where the warmth radiating against her back was the body heat of family and kin, not the harshness of a cruel unfamiliar sun. It was when she opened her eyes after such dreams that Musaamik felt the homesickness most keenly, and she wondered if there was any hope of returning.
