Waratah: I really can't imagine why you're so good to me. My first assumption was that you just had some kind of kink that I satisfied but that's not how it is at all. You aren't ashamed to be with me, even if people give you a hard time about it.

I know how to appreciate someone with a beautiful soul. In spite of how you feel about yourself.

It's funny; their conversation, genderswapped, could be one I've had with my girlfriend. She's a young, petite, hyper-intelligent psychologist who happens to teach Okinawan martial arts on the side. I'm a retired computer analyst and former security guard. And we've probably read most of those books between us.
Please do take your lady's advice and read Murakami. Nothing could have prepared me for what a strange journey his works are. Through references in his stories he makes it clear that he is a fan of Dostoevsky and Tolestoy. This comes through strongly but his subject matter is so surreal and dreamlike in it's logic that places you into amazing mental landscape.
