They moved at once. The rat throw the tar covered lump at the raven as the bird jumped forward to get its sharp parts into the rodent's soft flesh. Both of them missed. The rat ran around the wooden crate looking for anything, got a bone, tried to break it to get something sharp but it was hard as a stone, and had no more time so throw it again.
But no puny pebble-bone would stop a vengeful bird. The matches, there were the matches! Flame does have its power above animals. The rat held the ground using a lighted match as a torch.
