Slightly delayed Halloween commission gotten from
Nenana-Uso. Thanks so much!
Here we have the final five, representing the final four of my self-proclaimed Commanderween. It was a blast thinking of the ideas and bouncing them off Yukon, and he really captured the essence of both my boys and the characters they represent. I love it so much. :)
Here we have Riordan, Xander, Byron, Colton, and Tony dressed to impress, each going as a certain one of my favorite Commanders.
Rio and Xander decided to go as Kynaios and Tiro of Meletis. In terms of myself, the Theros couple was my first Commander deck I purchased, and for a few reasons. First, it was group hug, a playstyle where everyone benefits... though I benefit just a bit more. Second, it was set on Theros, one of my favorite planes. And third, they are the first canonically gay couple portrayed on a Magic card. It's not even obvious, with rainbows and big shows of affection, just Tiro gently running his fingers through Kynaios' hair while holding his helmet as the two look out upon the nascent polis of Meletis. A way to represent without being too much. Plus I just enjoy the deck. My own playstyle is enjoying watching other people do stuff. As long as everyone can play, it's a good game, I say. So here the two are, just cuddling a bit for the photo, Xander unable to resist snuggling up next to his boyfriend as Rio beams. I love the shimmery fabric and armor done here, don't you?
Next up in the back, tall and proud is Byron as Nazahn, Revered Bladesmith. A nacatl from Naya like Lev's Marisi from a previous picture, Nazahn is a blacksmith who, when the plane of Alara fused its shards back together, found himself working for the knights of Bant. His handiwork earned him praise and status amongst the more civilized people of Bant, and the sigils he wears are a testament to that. His hammer is a magical artifact, granting him invincibility that lets him handle red-hot metal with his bare paws. In game he is an equipment Commander, focusing on artifact weaponry and armor that are put on creatures so they can hit harder or survive. My deck has a cat tribal subtheme as many leonin work in artifice and it's just a fun and flavorful deck. Byron here is just happy his look came together as he waves with his hammer, hand on his brother Tony's shoulder.
Tony meanwhile is Koll, the Forgemaster. A dwarf from the plane of Kaldheim, he was attacked by the massive wolf Sarulf one day while foraging for materials, and was then saved by the god Halvar. After the great battle, Koll saw a chunk of Tyrite, a shimmering, magical substance that, when he touched it, turned his arm to Tyrite. To his surprise, he could not only still use the hand, but it let him handle Tyrite safely. Grateful to Halvar, he promised to craft him the finest weapon in all the realms from the Tyrite in thanks. And so he forged the Sword of the Realms for the god. In game Koll helps rescue allies that wield equipment, saving them from death while tokens that hold them are strengthened. Here Tony stands, grinning proudly as he displays the sword, his brother behind him.
And Colton, hogging the middle, is Vadrok, Apex of Thunder. An elemental cat dinosaur from the plane of Ikoria, Vadrok is nearly a force of nature itself, a primal being of ferocity and savagery. It defends its territory with claw, wing, and blasts of elemental power, and hunts in much the same way. In game he enjoys mutating, a mechanic from Ikoria that is a bit complicated, but when he mutates he gets to cast spells from the graveyard for free, and if you set yourself up properly, that means going infinite and winning on the spot. Colton meanwhile here has spread his wings, ready to pounce... or just hug. Rawr!
Hope you all enjoyed this, I personally adore it, and thanks again so much
