Actually ive been told that Piranha are scavengers and usually wont touch something untill its beem dead for a few days and the meat is softened enough that they can get into it...otherwise, there are far more disturbing creatures in the waters of the rain forrest....like the penis fish *horror*

Partially correct, Piranha are attracted to dead things but also to blood, if there is enough of them around when they smell blood they will savage the bleeding creature. one account does report a child falling into the water filled with red belly piranha and the uninjured child was devoured. So its not unheard of for them to attack quite living creatures.

On top of that, of all the species of piranha out there, only one of them is known to hunt in schools, I'm not sure which one but quite possibly the red bellied ones that whiteblur mentioned.

the blood gets them interested, but the sounds of thrashing is what actually attracts them. in brazil a bus drove into the water, no one was bleeding but everyone was thrashing around trying to get out, the piranhas ate everyone that couldn't swim out of the river, and most died.

Its important to note a few things about that incident, First. a Bus crashed into the river, the chances of there being no one bleeding at all are slim, Secondly. most of the people couldnt get out of the bus at all due to it being completely submerged, almost everyone on board drowned to death long before being partially eaten. Third. family of those on board confirmed a large majority of people on board couldnt swim and testimony from the survivors state that people were attacking eachother all fighting for the chance to escape, thus preventing most of the people from surviving since no one could calm down enough to take turns.

you're right, after i typed that i looked it up. only one or two managed to escape through broken windows, everyone else drowned. though i still wanna pet piranha XP
