I have never played Second Life, but isn't it just like VR chat/The Sims?
And if so, Can you actually vore other players characters? or is it just a "fake vore" thing where after the animation of eating them, the two characters just... stand there?
I'm kinda currious to know how this works now.

No worries~
So yes you can "eat" other players but its done via a HUD and carrier system that basically stores the other persons avatar in an unseen location (typically under the ground).
There are systems that have animations for the different vore types and even sounds with some!
You can certainly just use the HUD and posing system to do everything or be like me and blend the system with some RP in IMs.
