Two dinos, different yet similar, one scaled, the other feathered, lumbered through the thick jungle labyrinth side-by-side.
The scaled one, appropriately going by Scaly, peaked in curiosity about her companion. She seemed to ultimately be doing most of the talking, as the feathered one, Abequa, seemed for some reason a bit more distant. This only made the Raptor more curious.
"You're pretty big for your type," Scaly remarked.
Abequa snorted. "I get that a lot," she sighed with a slight roll of her eyes. Typically the Pteryx would receive that exact comment about her size and physique, particularly from Raptors and other species related to her, and all too often they would negatively gawk about the fact that, for a dinosaur within the Raptor family, she wasn't exactly lean and didn't look fast (though she could easily prove that wrong), and many question if she could even fly. Deep down, she braced for it.
"Not a problem at all though," Scaly continued. It seemed she realized Abequa might've felt awkward, given she didn't say anything else after her initial response, and so she figured it best to make it clear that she wasn't trying to be rude. "In fact, honestly you're the strongest-looking one I've seen from your type. I should be surprised, but then, look at me." She let out a chuckle.
Abequa didn't expect that. No teasing, but instead a flattering observation, one that highlighted a positive attribute about her size, a genuine compliment. This was rare, especially to hear from a Raptor, and she pondered about this, until the end of Scaly's sentence echoed in her head. 'Look at me.' Abequa did exactly that, and then remembered, this Raptor was just as big as her. Why would she make fun of her when she's practically the same?
Scaly noticed Abequa seemed to be checking her out a little. Seeing that she was curious too, she smirked, and continued. "Yeah, I'm pretty much the biggest one in my patrol unit. My squad mates know it too, but they can't complain when I'm just so much stronger than any of them! I may stick out a bit, but I can do so many things they can't!"
Abequa listened with genuine interest. The point of view Scaly was describing sounded very similar to her own, except Scaly seemed to learn to embrace it. Abequa had to admit that she herself hadn't fully yet.
"You know... you could probably be the muscle of a squad yourself, as strong as you look. In fact..." She sidled up against the Pteryx, causing their hips to squish up against each other, her own thigh covered by desert camo shorts meeting Abequa's covered by black warm-ups, and placed her claws on her shoulder supportively. "We could even team up..." She finished that remark with a grin, one that might've come off as sinister due to her razor sharp teeth. She, of course, wasn't looking for malicious intent, but simply couldn't help but imagine what Abequa could do, and the thought was entertaining.
Abequa looked over at her. Flattered yet again, she sheepishly rubbed the back of her head, seemingly entertained by the idea herself. Everything she was feeling felt foreign, especially since these feelings were being generated by someone outside of her usual friends. She felt herself curling the end of her mouth up slightly in a little smirk.
"Tell me," Scaly went on. "Can you, like... fight?"
Abequa became the most open she had ever felt in a while. "Well... I do wrestle from time to time, and I do some combat training..." she paused thoughtfully, "... mostly because things can get tense, and I want to be there for my friend... my sis... Sher."
Scaly smiled warmly. "Well, my squad trains in combat too, so if you ever want to train with us sometime, you're welcome."
Abequa smiled. "Thank you," she murmured.

Happy Dinovember! Also this was new for me, mainly because of the jungle background, as I had never done an upward-looking angle inside a forested location.
Enjoy!
