The bell rings for the fifth round as the two hares look like they’ve fought for ten. Both men begin facing the other with an eye bruised shut, with Kaye being worse off with a broken nose and swollen cheek. Gritt looks towards his ragged opponent now believing he’s close to seizing victory. Gritt’s soon proven wrong as Kaye bashes him with an elbow to make them even for the last round. Gritt’s nose breaks as he stumbles back in intense pain.

Kaye moves in throwing sloppy, desperate punches in a savage attempt to ruin Gritt’s face even more. A few right hooks land on target, causing Gritt’s beaten face to slowly match Kaye’s. The hare tries to keep up his onslaught but gives into exhaustion as his attacks slow severely. Dazed and barely conscious, Gritt throws a haphazard uppercut at Kaye’s jaw. In a direct hit, Kaye’s consciousness slips for a brief second as his feet pop off the ground.

He barely catches his fall and stumbles again collapsing onto Gritt’s shoulders. The two fighters, stagger about the ring holding tightly as if locked in a drunken slow dance. Kaye throws a few weak body shots at Gritt causing his grunts to slowly turn into soft moans. Gritt punches Kaye in a similar fashion causing him to react in the same manner. They pull each other close and exchange words as they smile with destroyed faces.

Gritt: “This fight is starting to feel good, I shoulda messed with you sooner.”

Kaye: “Likewise, we’re gonna have to do something about this after I win”

Gritt: “Keep dreaming.”

The bell rings and the two men stumble back smiling.
